Happy #PortfolioDay! I'm a cartoonist with colourful work with a sense of humour & adventure, whether in imaginary worlds or urban landscapes. #KidLitArt#KidlIt#MastoArt
I work a lot for Owl Magazine, and made a couple graphic novels.

Quotes that show #kidlit is not just for children:
“It was morning. Some of the sky was yellow, some the softest blue. One small cloud scuttled along. Strange how everything below can be such death and chaos and pain while above the sky is peace, sweet blue gentleness. I heard a shaman say once, the Ancestors want our souls to be like the blue sky.”
―Shannon Hale, Book of a Thousand Days.
“Living with uncertainty is like having a rock in your shoe. If you can’t remove the rock, you have to figure out how to walk despite it. There is simply no other choice.”
Hi everyone! Those of us in the BosKidLit Collective are meeting up this Sunday at 11AM at Belmont Books. We'll be outside the front of the store (inside the cafe if it rains). All #BIPOC#kidlit & #YA lit folks #writers and #illustrators are welcome! There is no need to be in the group or join the group to chat. #boston@bookstodon@kidlit
Breadwinner is a graphic novel about a girl in Afghanistan who has to dress like a boy in order to get food and work to help her family after her father was imprisoned.
Beetle and the Hollowbones is a YA graphic novel about a young goblin and her friend. It is a Stonewall Honor Book and was an exciting adventure saving Blob Ghost.
Welp, this seems to be my new HQ for a while. So to any new people here.
Hi, I’m Steven and I’m a #kidlit author with an absurd level of imagination and too many projects to work on. Right now, two of my published works are a YA dystopia thriller, City of Kaiju, and a MG short fiction collection, How A Donut Destroyed Earth, all of Amazon, Apple Books, and anywhere ebooks are sold. #writingcommunity#bookstodon@bookstodon
I'm trying to create some resources for school-age #children at my #library to explore websites other than Roblox. Anyone have any suggestions about sites that have engaging activities for 7-13 year olds that don't feel didactic or moralizing, and are actually fun or interesting?
Small indie #bookstores are the best. Got introduced to Lynn Ward (1905-1985), who created wordless #GraphicNovels (the first in the U.S.) & was also an award winning #kidlit illustrator.
Influenced by his dad (first chairman of the ACLU), and by German expressionist graphic artists. Went on to influence Art Spiegelman, Eric Drooker and others.
Wow!!! The Week Junior Book Award shortlist is out and #TheChestnutRoaster is there for Cover of the Year!
PLEASE VOTE for it!!! 🙏🤗 https://www.theweekjuniorbookawards.co.uk/
I count my lucky stars every time I look at its design by the amazing Holly Ovenden 🧡
It's launch day for #MirrorOfWolves. I just had a hugely chaotic move a few days ago, and am surrounded by boxes and having to deal with "issues" the building inspector missed. And am back to work at the day job, too. Tired, stressed, covered in bruises (including a couple of really big ones I can't remember how I got) and do not have anywhere near the amount of time to devote to this launch as I should.
But my second book is out in the world today and that makes me happy. 😊
Some new work for you loves, for a pitch i'm working up about biodiversity, and all the critters that live in an oak. #Illustration#kidlit#ChildrensBooks
My colleague is trying to identify a fantasy novel he read as a child/tween sometime around 1980-1984 in the U.S., and so far all of us who are trying to assist are stumped. If you can help, we'd be most grateful! (UPDATE: We’ve ruled out works by Patricia McKillip.)
Here's what he remembers:
He thinks it was published in the late 1970s. (He read a library hardback without a dustjacket, so he didn't see the cover art.)
He thinks it was a standalone novel, not a book in a series.
The plot involved a boy and girl brought up as siblings, but in fact they were the respective heirs of two warring kingdoms, heraldically represented as "the Mountain" and "the Sea." It culminated in a duel between two wizards.
The brilliant author Elle McNicoll has set up The Adrien Prize to champion the writing of authors who include positive depictions of #Disability and #ChronicIllness in their children's books following the closure of The Blue Peter Children’s Book Award earlier this year. The shortlist has just been announced, as follows:
The Secret of Haven Point by Lisette Auton, Puffin Books
Wilder Than Midnight by Cerrie Burnell, Puffin Books
A Flash of Fireflies by Aisha Bushby, Farshore Books
This is a brand-new prize to get behind and it’s great to see that The Book Trust have recently given away copies of the longlist to schools in a competition.
This article has a little more information about the prize > https://www.lovereading4kids.co.uk/blog/elle-mcnicoll-launches-new-childrens-book-prize-the-adrien-prize-6408
The Adrien Prize has a winner! Quote from Elle McNicoll ‘CONGRATULATIONS TO Aisha Bushby, WINNER OF THE 2023 ADRIEN PRIZE FOR "A FLASH OF FIREFLIES"
Our young judges voted for this winner because of the gorgeous characterisation, the dynamic use of metaphor, the inventive storytelling and the authentic portrayal of the young narrator’

Hi All, I've switched servers so it's #introduction time again! I'm a #writer and #photographer currently living in Minneapolis. MN, USA. I write speculative #YA ranging from ghost-laden mysteries to magical thrillers to stuff that's just, well, weird. Lately I've been wanting to write more short stories or flash. #VCFA#sff#kidlit
Photography-wise, I'm up for anything, but expect a lot of pics of small animals, both wild and domestic. Here are a few faves:
