Acabo de desinstalar Grayjay, la super-app para ver vídeos.
¿La razón? Parece que las corporaciones del entretenimiento la han tumbado y ya empiezan a verse las primeras restricciones. Además de que la última actualización la ha dejado inútil.
"Grayjay enables you to create and watch video content in your own terms, fully retaining ownership and having control over what you watch... Add different sources from different services. Create an environment where you watch only things you like"
Spent some time experimenting with #grayjay and my own self-hosted #peertube instance. In it's current state the official peertube plugin is unable to load remote videos.
Thankfully because the app and plugins are free software, It wasn't too much of a challenge for me to make it all work with a forked plugin.
I've only just started testing it, but so far I like the UI, and I dig the ability to find creators on various platforms, follow them on any/all of them (with deduplication 👍), background play, and downloading for offline play. Only thing missing for me is #Sponsorblock
Have you tried it? What do you like about it? What do you disike? Let me know!
I hope this app takes off and becomes profitable for Louis Rossman. It will hopefully lead to a sustainable business model for DIY Video Makers. #GrayJay
I would rather see a true #FOSS version of what #Grayjay wants to achieve, instead of another proprietary app which WILL enshittify down the line, if it attracts enough market share to be indispensable.
We've seen this so many times before, starting from Google's "don't be evil" motto.
FOSS licenses are not there to protect the app from malicious parties. It's to protect the users from the developers. The choice to not use a FOSS license, is a strong signal on how this will play out.
