I hit this checkbox in the #PureOS software store, and now I can install many, many perfectly compatible #flatpak apps on my #librem5 such as #Tuba for mastodon and #librewolf which I prefer over #firefox 🤩️
Aarch64 support: we now build the Flatpak from source in order to support distros like #AsahiLinux better and a wider range of devices.
Automatic updating: an hour or so after release, the Flatpak will update to the latest version and binaries will be on official release channels in three to four hours.
Beta channels: we've set up a beta chanel that also automatically updates, so you can use the release candidates easily on #Flathub Beta!
Thanks to @grillo_delmal for figuring all of this out. It was fun.
Steam will soon use the desktop portal file picker.
In practice, it means Steam will use your native desktop method for selecting and saving files, resulting in better user experience and desktop integration.
This is one of many things Flatpak and GNOME pioneered that improves the Linux desktop for everyone.
A new #Flathub website launched at #LAS2023 last weekend! 🎉 The redesigned site brings a fresh look and a verification feature. Developers can now log in and verify ownership of their apps, earning a blue check mark. Check it out here: https://flathub.org/
Whenever I read about folks moving their #flatpak apps and libs to a Sd card to free up space in their #linuxonmobile phones, because the runtimes can take a lot of space, I think about the Android user story with moving all the Android apps you can to the SD card.
I had problems with #Mega on #Fedora 38 The app kept crashing. Then I saw there was a #flatpak version. And it worked! The only thing is that its icon is showing like 3 dots on Dash to Panel.
I know people say compression in #Flatpak would be unnecessary but it would be quite interesting to see someone implementing it. And perhaps since there is less data to compress it could have a more efficiency-focused compression algo unlike #Snap?
Anyone else notice that the flatpak for Tic-80 is installing an older version than it should? Flathub's web UI reports 1.0.2164 but it actually installs 1.01 for me, and warns newer versions are available on launch.

No more going to the command line or searching how to enable Flathub. In Fedora 38, you can enable all of Flathub, unfiltered, as a third-party repo right out of the box.
You still have to opt-in if you want it, but it should be right there for you as you start an installation or check your settings in Gnome Software.
Looks like the #Flatpak font bug that affected my CentOS Stream 9 instance a while back hit my #RHEL 9.1 desktop today. Only thing I can remember updating today was some Flatpak runtimes. Zero time in my schedule to diagnose, at the moment.
