Normally I would vote for the Greens but I think they deserve to suffer for two major mistakes they made:
Their hardline positioning on the Gaza war is not new (Özdemir and others have expressed similar in the past) but it's entirely opposed to their professed values of human rights and equality. A serious case of "Progressive Except Palestine".
Nothing and nobody forced them to take this position so this error is entirely self-inflicted. That is even worse than 1. #europawahl#eu2024
The CDU is politically more or less the same as the Greens but they are a party that has actually been in power regularly. Why would anybody accept the vegetarian substitute?
Still you should only vote for the CDU if you are into quite stupid and corrupt people being in power. The CDU is responsible for Germany being as backwards as it currently is and they benefit from keeping it that way. #europawahl#eu2024
The SPD is a shadow of what was at some point a social democratic party best ignored and left behind in the dustbin of history. Other countries have rediscovered some social democratic elan, but no sign of anything like that in Germany.
The only SPD politicians I can respect are the ones who stand for election in small country-side towns opposing the hordes of nazis. That takes guts and is a service to democracy. #europawahl#eu2024
The Linke got gutted after Sarah Wagenknecht left the party to finally start her own thing (we'll talk about that one later) and took half the seats with her.
I haven't heard anything from them after the party imploded so I think they may be dead. #europawahl#eu2024
The AfD is the German nazi party. They'll say whatever vile things they need to get elected and once they're elected they'll collude with the rich and sell the country out to Putin. They'll also destroy whatever is still working of the institutions.
I'm not entirely clear why the other political parties cede so much of the frustrated electorate to them. #europawahl#eu2024
Die Tierschutzpartei is one of many parties (Tierschutz hier!, V-Partei³) for animal lovers.
Unfortunately I don't see them achieve the same success that the PvdD did in the Netherlands who entered parliament as a party to the left of the Greens and became a small but relatively vocal element in Dutch politics. #europawahl#eu2024
The FDP say they are a liberal party but they are not much more than the political expression of egotism and short-sightedness. Everything about this party is a mistake and with some luck they will not make it into the Bundestag come next elections. #europawahl#eu2024
Volt is a transnational party and that's the only positive thing I can say about them. They sound very sympathetic but because the party is ideologically void ("Let's just make everything nice."), you never know what you're really going to get.
Or at least you know you're not going to get an actual solution that might cut into the careers or inheritances of the Volt kids.
Also as direct disqualifiers: They're against the Palestinians and pro nuclear energy.
I don't really understand whether the Freie Wähler are really a party or not. I feel that it's the kind of party you vote for if you are unhinged and right-wing but you have too much pride left to be able to vote for the AfD.
Besides the many animal lover parties there's also a bunch of socialist remnant political parties like the Deutsche Kommunistische Partei, Marxistische Leninistische Partei Deutschland and Sozialistische Gleichheitspartei Vierte Internationale. (Which one of these are the Trots?)
Their histories and positions are most probably incredibly convoluted but also nobody is really interested in learning about them anyway. #europawahl#eu2024
Die Basis is the political party that is a platform for the covidiots and anti-vaxxers in Germany. I mean Germany has more than enough of both of those to go around, but in this party they'll be very much in the majority. #europawahl#eu2024
Unlike most people I think the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht is somewhat sympathetic. If nothing else, you have to give it to a party that actually manages to take votes away from the far right.
Their leader and her personality cult have, after years of political edging, finally broken out and assumed what I feel is the final form of what die Linke always wanted to be but could never admit to itself: populist, nationalist, pro-Putin. #europawahl#eu2024
DAVA is widely known as the Erdogan party which they won't admit to of course. In the Netherlands a similar party DENK had some success politically and something like that may happen here because:
Germany's political apparatus deliberately and systematically disenfranchised its entire muslim voter base. Many of them are never going to vote for an establishment political party again.
The SPD used to be a reservoir of Arab and Turkish votes but is now taking a hard right. #europawahl#eu2024
The Letzte Generation is not just another environment party like Klimaliste and Tierschutzpartei. They are the political arm of a protest movement that was everywhere in Germany over the past 1-2 years and garnered lots of media attention.
I would vote for them if I thought there was any chance of them getting a seat (you need some 400'000 votes). #europawahl#eu2024
Of all the single-issues political parties in these elections the Life Extension Party (Partei für schulmedizinische Verjüngungsforschung) seems like it may be the most reasonable one.
Their posters (how I first noticed them) are quite well done and they make it explicit they are not in favour of alternative medicine. #europawahl#eu2024
Welche EU-Staaten beim Wirtschaftswachstum vorn liegen
