Have you noticed Jake Gyllenhaal's increasingly eclectic resumé, ping-ponging between gigs like action movie "Road House" and "Othello" on Broadway with Denzel Washington (his first Shakespeare performance)? It's all part of his quest for projects that freak him out. "The feeling I want to have is, can I do it?" he told the Hollywood Reporter in a wide-ranging interview that covered how he got into acting, losing his sense of imagination, and why he thinks the fact that he's legally blind is advantageous.

ICYMI: Japan’s host clubs, where young men entertain mainly female guests, have long had a system where women can pay on credit. This system, which is rife with abuse, has been held accountable for the first time as authorities shut down a club over it.

These are the #Kdramas and #Cdramas that I plan to catch up with this year. I have a feeling I may end up dropping The Legends, because I have very little patience for xianxia, but since it stars Xu Kai maybe I'll give it more of a chance :P

@AnnaAnthro yea it's odd. It does the right things but somehow I still got bored 🤨

@liztai It is fascinating to me how dramas that become ‘special’ to me emerge. Such alchemy!

Example: I’m watching a ‘typical’ time-slip murder-mystery kdrama called My Perfect Stranger on Viki. Low budget. 16 episodes. No hype. Good acting chemistry but not spectacular. But somehow the script is very strong (same writer behind Tale of Nokdu). And I still can’t predict whodunnit and am nearly finished! Addictive!

All six seasons of "Lost" are arriving on Netflix in the U.S. on July 1 — that's 121 episodes, from the pilot to the divisive finale. Total Film's Emily Garbutt says that some fans are lobbying for a re-evaulation of the final twist. She quotes one: "My firm stance remains that 'Lost' is good and the finale is great and haters will be welcomed with open arms on the right side of history after they reevaluate." Time for the big question: 14 years after it aired, what are your thoughts on the finale of "Lost?"

@samiamsam "Fringe" was so great!

27% of respondents to this poll are steadfast in their hatred of the "Lost" finale, though a higher percentage — 38% — didn't watch it at all. 11% loved it, though — @RVLara23 says it was "the most brilliant ending to the most brilliant show of all time." Lots and lots of love for other Damon Lindelof shows in the comments too, including "The Leftovers," "Watchmen" and "Fringe." Next up for Lindelof is a TV show called "The Human Conditions," co-produced with Matt Reeves and described as a magical-realist medical drama.

"Sound of Thunder" director Alejandro Monteverde has an unusual stipulation in his 10-year deal with Angel Studios. The distributor, which mostly focuses on Christian content, has agreed to purchase the filmmaker a house valued at $4-5 million in a location of his choosing. The studio also has an unusual approach to filmmaking — it decides what to green light based on the votes of the Angel Guild, 300,000 paid subscribers. Here's more from @IndieWire.

He spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his office decor — his kids' old art projects hang beside a copy of Donald Trump's impeachment resolution — how he fell in love with the monologue, and the fine art of blending stupid and smart.

"Halt and Catch Fire" premiered 10 years ago and went on for four seasons and 40 episodes. @polygon's Devan Suber describes how the beloved AMC show understood the draw of video games better than any show that's come before it. "In the words of Joe MacMillan (Lee Pace), the computer was always 'the thing that gets us to the thing,' a vector for connection, expression, or some other deeper human need."

Cinema has gifted us with a steady stream of post-apocalyptic movies that often make us ponder real life in a such a hellscape. Fortunately, one brave writer took up the task of watching 51 dystopian films to determine which ones he could survive. It nearly killed him. Read his story on The Ringer: https://flip.it/Eg00gs

"I’ve been thinking, lately, about the theme of 'American presidents who commit felonies.' I don’t know why; it’s just been on my mind recently for some reason," writes Crime Reads' Olivia Rutigliano. She's created this list of fictional presidents from TV and and film who've committed felonies, including President Fitz from "Scandal," President Frank Underwood from "House of Cards," and more. "As I just said, these are fictional examples, so if some real guy who was elected the President of the United States of America committed anything equivalent to these things in real life, it’d be way, way worse," Rutigliano concludes.
