The case of Clarence Thomas’s new clerk taints the entire judiciary
Justice #Clarence#Thomas has hired #Crystal#Clanton to be one of his law clerks, the most elite assignment a young law school graduate can secure.
The shock is this:
In 2015, when Clanton was 20
and working for a conservative group allied with the justice’s wife, #Ginni Thomas,
Clanton apparently sent racist texts to a fellow employee:
“I HATE BLACK PEOPLE,”
one text read.
“Like f--- them all … I hate blacks. End of story.”
(In Clanton’s text, the expletive was spelled out.)
It is impossible to overstate the prestige that attaches to a Supreme Court clerkship.
The job is a golden ticket awarded to just 36 each year
— about 1 in 1,000 law graduates, the best of the best.
Major law firms lure Supreme Court clerks with signing bonuses of a half-million dollars.
Clanton, who graduated from the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University in 2022, will be the third high court clerk from that institution since 2021.
The New Yorker’s Jane Mayer unearthed Clanton’s texts in 2017, in an article about 🔹 Turning Point USA🔹, the conservative youth organization run by #Charlie#Kirk.
Notably, 🔸Clanton, the group’s field director🔸, didn’t deny writing the texts.
“I have no recollection of these messages and they do not reflect what I believe or who I am and the same was true when I was a teenager,” she wrote in an email to Mayer.
Legal and political experts are expressing #outrage and #disgust after ProPublica's latest investigation into the alleged unethical and unlawful actions of U.S. Supreme Court Justice #Clarence#Thomas, with some demanding his resignation and others calling it "#corruption of the highest level," "#PayToPlay.," and one simply saying, "This #sickens me."
Clarence Thomas Filing Acknowledges Harlan Crow Real Estate Deal, Private Jet Travel
Supreme Court Justice #Clarence#Thomas for the first time acknowledged that he should have reported selling real estate to billionaire political donor Harlan Crow in 2014, a transaction revealed by ProPublica earlier this year.
Writing in his annual financial disclosure form, Thomas said that he “inadvertently failed to realize” that the deal needed to be publicly disclosed.
In the form, which was made public Thursday after he’d received an extension on the filing deadline, Thomas also disclosed receiving three private jet trips last year from Crow. #ProPublica reported on two of those trips.
WASHINGTON, Aug 31 (Reuters) - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas accepted flights by private jet last year and cited security concerns around the court's controversial abortion decision to justify some of the private travel, according to a disclosure form released on Thursday....
—Leonard Leo and his organization had business before the Supreme Court.
—They sent large sums of money to Clarence Thomas’s wife.
—They deliberately removed her name from the paperwork.
In what universe would a US Attourney investigate the supremely #corrupt court justice(s)? We are still waiting for the #TFG crime family and associates to be arraigned and it has been years in the making. There are too many clandestine corrupt pols in the mix for anything substantial to be done. Call me disgusted!
The Constitution doesn’t lay out a mechanism for it but in point of fact Supreme Court justices don’t actually enjoy lifetime tenure. Article 3 says they “shall hold their Offices during good Behavior.”
Being found guilty of violating a law should surely void their appointment.
5/ Congress already acted. Now it's the DOJ's responsibility. The obvious concealment evidences willfulness and is a federal crime that can be charged. Nobody is above the law, means justices too, in fact they of all people should be held to the highest standards. #DOJCrimDiv#corrupt#scotus#Clarence#Thomas#Ethics Mess
Clarence is unfit to serve in any government position or in any capacity in legal profession.
