I don't have a lot of thoughts about the #ABElxn yet, I'm not ready to think that much about it.
Instead, I'm both excited and anxious for my first #BikePacking trip! Heading out from #yeg to #ElkIsland NP first thing in the morning, staying two nights at Oster Lake.
Will post a photo of my rig once I've got it all packed!
Here it is, my #BikePacking rig. Almost a #CarryShitOlympics contender. Would be a lot lighter without the #Packraft and related gear, but I'm determined to go boating on Astotin Lake tomorrow!
@xtaran@petrosyan@neil Funny channel and lots of parts I didn’t know yet. Although I just realized a problem with the #Brompton electric: with the heavy battery you lose a lot of your carriage capacity. The empty wine crate (funny btw 🤭) for instance weighs incl. battery pack more than 5kg. I imagined the front carrier block of the electric would bear more than the standard 10kg (which already is quite limiting for #bikepacking)…
@kboyd it depends a lot on the type of riding you do. I do some crazy rides (10+ hours, day after day) when #bikepacking, and I had lots of saddle trouble. Ended up getting a Brooke's saddle from England. They're leather, and take about 500 km to "break in" -- they're not super-comfortable at first, but after they're broken in and shape themselves to your bottom they're absolutely amazing. A friend described his as being like "angels holding your bottom cupped in their hands"...
I am utterly pleased: A week ago, @Andi_Berlin tooted about his new #Brompton bridge which a friend 3D-printed for him. I envied him about this part, and told him so. As a response he kindly (thank you!) sent me a link to the publicly available 3D-printer data for the bridge. I uploaded the file to a 3D-printing service here in Stockholm, Sweden. Today I got the part and it fits perfectly. It costed 30 Euros and weighs a mere 37 grams.
Some of you may already know: I quit my current job after more than ten years. But before I tackle a new challenge, I'm taking three months off for something completely different: I'm going on another long #bikepacking trip! About 7'000 km / 4'500 mi across the #USA, from the #Atlantic to the #Pacific. I'm still looking for adventurous cyclists who want to join me completely or partially. Or just meet me on the route. #BikePacking friends of the Fediverse, what do you usually do for meals that pack small and light and don't require a cooler? And preferably are actually, y'know, tasty?
Die Mitgliedschaft beim Verein #bikepacking Deutschland kann weiterhin per Papier zum Start vorgezeigt werden oder man meldet sich digitalen, direkt im Kalender des Vereins zur Ausfahrt #ThueringenErfahren
It's the little things which help me tremendously when bicycling. One of them is the mirror attached to my helmet. Without it I feel almost naked. It is my third eye which helps me see what's going on behind. To know, for example, how fast the car behind is approaching me, is essential for my driving behaviour. I know exactly how long I should show that I am in the way, and when exactly it is time to give way.
