Fantastic interview with Elias Toufexis on #VoiceActing in #VideoGames. It also strengthens my belief that VA is different from acting and you cannot just take a live-action actor and give them a VA role.
I was going to make a comment about #OpenAI and #voiceactors but I realized that some of my assumptions were wrong.
What I'm worried about is that a lot people don't necessarily recognize the difference. Traditionally, a full buyout for a voice actor is reasonable, because it covers a single recording.
But open AI is literally buying the person's voice.
Looking for a voice actor/narrator for an audiobook production. I need a woman with a low voice and a US accent. This is a paid project. No audio editing needed. I've got a team for that already.
You can find my email in the weblink in my bio to get in touch!
This week, #Tennessee passed #TheElvisAct (Ensuring Likeness, Voice, and Image Security Act) intended to protect artists from having their voice and likeness used by #AI without consent.
If you have some spare time over the next 6 weeks and have #voiceacting, #audio editing, #video editing, video production, #illustration, #3D graphics, writing, or similar skills and would be up for helping us help #trans Americans, please drop us a line at annie@transrescue.org
We're hoping to produce a lot of content over the next few months.
Looking for a multiplayer game to spend as much or as little time on as you like? Let me recommend #GuildWars2.
It's an MMO, yes, but one without a subscription fee, without gear grind, and it's not pay-to-win. You can literally drop out for a year, come back, and all your gear and progress are still relevant. It also has a very generous free-to-play tier, you can basically "try it out" for months.
Damn, I also forgot to mention that large parts of the game have high-quality voice acting in English, French, and German, with big names such as Troy Baker, Steve Blum, Felicia Day, Debi Derryberry, John DiMaggio, Jennifer Hale, Matt Mercer, Nolan North, Sam Riegel, Jon St. John, Fred Tatasciore, Kari Wahlgren, …
There are scenes in the game that are voice-acted so well, that they still give me goosebumps or make me cry, even though I've first played them years ago.
Vote for... well, vote for whomever you want. There's pretty much zero chance I win this thing and a lot of talented names up for the same award, including some of my castmates. If you vote, vote who you like. If it's me, well, thanks. 😀
I know a LOT of the community absolutely love both Idris and Keanu, but I think one reason why I feel so disconnected to both their characters is that I never cared about either actor all that much.
In short I am one of the few players who do not have an emotional commitment towards either character just by hearing their voices.
The English dub trailer for 'The Boy and the Heron' is out and my mouth literally hung open for the whole trailer as I gasped in amazement. If somebody told me all the original Japanese voice actors were also doing the dub, I could be convinced.
"Attempting to prevent accents from changing is like sweeping back an incoming tide with a broom – fruitless and defying nature. Instead, we should embrace linguistic diversity, work to combat accentism (discrimination based on a person’s accent), and accept that accents will always continue to change."
I've just discovered #anime#dub#blooper reels are a thing and I'm obsessed. I can't stop watching this one clip and laughing like a maniac. The enthusiasm of the VA is perfect. lol
Funny to think how many early gaming voice clips like Half Life scientists "NO! DARG! SHRIEK!" were probably recorded in like, 1-2 takes by a non-pro not thinking much about it because they just needed some stuff to push a game out, no big deal
And they're permanently embedded in so many heads 20-30 years later
Been getting a slew of gracious rejection messages to #VoiceActing auditions lately and I have to say, I appreciate that level of nicety. Definitely was not expected. Anything more professional than "HAHA YOU SUCK WE PICKED SOMEONE ELSE GET BENT" is 👍 in my book.
