I need a PhD to figure out how to register for a free license. It was already hard back then but I figured it out. Now I'm trying to do the same, fresh, to document in my notes on how to do so and I genuinely couldn't find the option to get a free license rather than a free trial. Once I figure this out (if I do), I really gotta start looking into hypervisors, if they exist.

Rude. Forcefully managed to get update to #Sonoma today which could break #VMWare, but since I have my VM auto-start, as long as I load it from the dock and then quickly turn VO off, I'm good. I never have VO running when I'm in the VM anyway, so I'll just have to be extra-careful not to turn it on, when the VM is running. Very silly.

I really like servers on VMware. I really hate desktops on VMware. But sometimes I need them. Always so slow and laggy.

I'm not sure who the target market is for #Proxmox.

If it's targeted to homelabber's who ENJOY tinkering with what will be the basis of most/all their other compute stuff, they're doing a great job.

Me, I use the homelab stuff for a mix. I don't want to fight with a hypervisor just to get it to boot. (this was my multi-day experience).

I ran screaming back to #VMware. I got back to 90% working state. (still have VMs to build, all non-Win11 machines just work)

One of my tech projects over the holiday break has been to set up a macOS virtual machine on my Windows laptop. Performance is not great, but now I have iMessage and Ivory access on Windows (and as long as I keep the running apps to that, it's not buttery smooth but it's more than good enough to get by. “Ice water in Hell," and all that…).

Honestly, if PhoneLink was better, I probably wouldn't have bothered. Ivory is nice but the Mastodon web experience on desktop is fine.

Is it just me, or are others seeing their VMs periodically freeze on VMWare Pro? It's happening regularly enough that I'm wondering what the hell is going on. I thought it was related to keyboard shortcuts for copy-and-paste between host and VM, but now it's happening at random. I can force a reboot of the VM, but I can't direct any input to it via mouse/keyboard. Am I alone or are others seeing this?
