Does anyone know if it’s possible/ likely that I’ll be able to travel on another train company (prob transport for wales) on an advanced ticket for a cancelled Avanti direct train? #UkRail#UkTrains#UkRailFail
The joys of CrossCountry rail: I've spent my whole lunch break staring at XC seating plans, RealTimeTrains data, and Trainsplit's seat booking... and I still have no idea whether I'm going to have a table seat or power socket for the trip to EMFcamp later this month.
Somehow Arriva manage to run the best buses around here, and the worst trains.
Sounds like packing the Charles Stross novel @orman surprised me with might not be such a bad idea, if there's a chance of a Ryanair-class trip #ukrail
On Thursday I was pleased to be at the launch of the UK Railway Industry Association's much-needed strategy for cost reduction and decarbonisation of the UK rail network. The strategy would deliver a sustainable and affordable railway and support the UK rolling stock market at a critical time, by delivering new low-carbon trains and further electrification of passenger and freight services.
Why is the microphone used by the train manager so bad on the Class 800 GWR train?
It isn't the speakers. The automated announcements are crystal clear. But as soon as a real person talks, it's like they're underwater and sucking a gobstopper.
A lot of UK corporate travel booking services send out #Train tickets as PDFs on emails with no way of adding them to Apple Wallet, which is super annoying when getting to a National Rail gateline with patchy internet access and having to navigate your email.
I’m building a little service to solve this problem. Right now it’s just an email address that you forward the PDFs to and it replies with the tickets as a Apple Wallet passes
I'm curious what kind of markup corporate travel companies make on rail tickets. I have two Anytime Singles for a journey I researched and stuck to that was available for £89 as Advance fares booked on the day.
If you think rail fares are a rip off, imagine being the guy who tried to dodge a £15 Northern fare from Leeds to York and got hit with the £100 penalty fare AND the cost of the ticket.... #ukrail
The #ukrail operator "I'd actually get to my destination, don't like claustrophobic trains, and have luggage" 'not today thanks' list...
(TPE because of all the short notice cancellations, XC because the claustrophobic trains are a recipe for sensory overload, and Lumo because I'll be travelling with luggage - though I'd still like to try them when I'm not)
Every single station we've stopped at so far they've had to warn departing passengers about "the large gap & big step down". The train itself is a new one, so did they spec it wrong for the West Mids region, or do all the stations need their platforms upgrading?
Network Rail publishes video showing dog walkers sitting their pets on the tracks for photos, youths doing one-armed push ups and parents letting toddlers play on live railway lines, is just some of the incredibly dangerous behaviour caught on covert cameras this year at footpath level crossings in Worcestershire.
Morning all. It’s a wet day here in south #Wales, and I have some spare hours, so let’s see if I can do some #Train geeking. There’s an “Explore the Capital day-to-go ticket” only available from staff. Let’s see if I can find one. #Caerdydd#Cardiff#rail 1/n
Me, thinking:
wait, why are LNER running a HST?
... With InterCity carriage livery?
... And the 91111 driving car, still with the "For the Fallen" livery. Wow!
As nice as the Azumas are, you can't beat a dolled up 225. Unit 91111 at Leeds this evening. #ukrail#railways#trainspotting
(Edit to correct a cockup: the HST was the InterCity 125 - this is a 225)
One for the #ukrail rail enthusiast brigade. I'm sat on a Northern liveried Class 158. I'm fairly sure this glass etching is either NorthernSpirit's original from the 1990s, or very early TransPennine. Does anyone know for sure?
