Reprocessed with a focus on the prominences. Happy with the result here although I want to redo it again to see if I can get better detail on the corona. 🔭🧪

Tutorial on how I did this is here: https://youtu.be/iwCxuDQ2Los

Having never photographed a #SolarEclipse I had no idea what I was doing and rolled with it in the moment. I’m pretty happy with the final product, it turned out better than I expected! Definitely a wild experience 🌑☀️

#SolarEclipse2024 from our balloon-borne 360deg camera at an altitude of 17km/55,000ft over Texas. A first, as far as we know! 20x normal speed, with orientation switched through 180deg at midpoint to show shadow moving away.

The balloon was being pushed along the eclipse track by near-100mph winds, so the camera is swinging and spinning quite rapidly making it very challenging to stabilise the image. Lens flare and frost patches from earlier passage through cloud are seen.

It did not get totally dark. It was more like dusk. For roughly 3 minutes. If you look closely at the sun in the picture, it has a small dark core.

Partial solar eclipse can be cool as well, but it cannot really compete with the total one. Still worth sharing.

People know how to make a sale during the Eclipse. We had ice-cream. 😀

@jon It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if the price had been halved exactly at the time of maximum coverage.🤔

I tried to - partially successfully - do a bit of writing on experiencing the eclipse yesterday.

I’m so underwhelmed by solar eclipses. Yeah, the moon goes around the earth and occasionally gets in front of the sun. IMO. The better eclipse on display at MOMA by artist Joan Jonas, lol.

VERMONTERS - you can RECYCLE YOUR ECLIPSE GLASSES at various locations. In Chittenden County, CSWD is running a program with “Astronomers without Borders” and has collection bins at all their locations, many local libraries and a number of other locations mentioned here: https://cswd.net/recycling/cswd-collaborates-with-astronomers-without-borders-to-give-solar-eclipse-glasses-another-use-2/

Here is the headless astronomical shadow entity Rahu again, in this c1825 CE from now at British London

Riding a Blue Ram, he is looking out for the Sun or the Moon which he will devour to replace his head which was cut off by the God for eating His food and thus causing & Lunar eclipse some other time.
