It’s a real bummer that the pointless videos that I make showing off a #Linux distro get more views than when I make a video about how to/tools to use to make your linux system more #secure. Any video that I’ve done pertaining to #security gets waaay less views. And it’s not about the views, it just goes to show that even people in the Linux community don’t care all that much about security sometimes 😅

Element X nightly has fuzzy search on room names in the room list. And it’s awesome.

Patch 1 in the Matrix Rust SDK, https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-rust-sdk/pull/2335.

Patch 2 in the Matrix Rust SDK, https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-rust-sdk/pull/2392.

Patch 3 in Element X iOS, https://github.com/vector-im/element-x-ios/pull/1483.

It’s probably for power users but how comfortable it is!

I even added UTF-8 normalisation for more comfort.

For decades police/military/intel agencies/critical infrastructure in 120 nations relied on #TETRA #radio standard to #secure #critical #comms. But #Dutch researchers examined #secret #algorithms used in TETRA and found something startling - an intentional backdoor.

  1. This and other problems the researchers found with TETRA would allow malicious actors to decrypt communications and also, in some cases, send malicious commands to critical infrastructure or send fake messages to police/military radios to disrupt their operations

  2. TETRA uses 80-bit keys in its encryption algorithms, but the researchers found that one of these algorithms has a secret reduction feature that reduces the key to 32 bits - which the researchers were able to crack in less than 1 minute using standard laptop and just 4 ciphertexts

I want to switch to a and reliable provider. I'm currently using MS 365 Business Basic (or whatever they're calling it these days) and have looked at and . Unfortunately, it seems the former doesn't allow sending from alias addresses, while the latter doesn't support importing from another provider.

Any tips/suggestions?

Been using for about a week now and I just have to say WOW! I don't think I've ever had an experience on my phone that feels like I'm using my desktop/laptop. The amount of control this OS gives back to me that google and apple took away is staggering. I know no piece of tech is 100% or . But damn is this close!

Hey, #Mastodon,

Is there a server-level configuration option to require authentication? That is, is there an instance operating mode of not serving the instance pages as browsable HTML, but only through #ActivityPub?

Can an instance run dark to the general internet, only its landing/about page serving as unauthenticated webpages, and otherwise only accessible via direct authentication or ActivityPub?

Is that a choice instances have?

corstian,

@siderea I meant the endpoints at which other services can access the server you're trying to protect.

Perhaps my proposed solution was too complicated anyway; there seems to be a "secure mode" on Mastodon which is likely more aligned with what you're trying to achieve: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/spec/activitypub/#secure-mode

Note: #WashingtonPost #articles are #free through June 29, 2023.

#Proton is well-respected company that provides some of the most #secure products available, including #encrypted #email options and #VPN.

I've considered moving from #Gmail for a while, and just this week downgraded my Proton #Visionary account to free (for now) because I've taken so long to decide.

Maybe now is the time, especially since it's easy to use both, seamlessly.

I think my philosophy when making software is that it should work for people with zero money or no bank account / credit card.

I know it's not a popular mindset to be in since money and profit is everything in the tech world.

I think it comes from growing up as a kid with no disposable income or access to anything but my shitty computer.

I'd rather support people with almost nothing than people with latest and greatest tech gizmos and spare cash for subscription services. 😅

@mauve ditto and it is why I've been supporting, building demos and PoCs for #SafeNetwork since 2014.

It will be an app platform too, so ideal for building apps that are free for anyone, bypassing gatekeepers and roadblocks.

Boy, did I turn out to be right.

I decided to sign up for their website services this week because I had some things I wanted to check, and didn't want to take too much of their time on the phone.
