I wondered if I might be able to get a better idea of #RepRap Micron probe height if I used a laser for illumination. Turns out not, but it looked frickin' rad. You can see the flecks of annoying dust on the slide clearly.

Better control of the #RepRap Z axis essential. This is what a probe head crash looks like on my μRepRap. The square is 50μm on a side, and the huge (well, 40μm) gash top right is where I ploughed the 5μm probe head into the slide... Ho hum, takes 10 mins to make a new one.

#RepRap Micron Progress. Now etching 0.1mm (100μm) squares, here arranged in a cross. Calibration slide has 10μm minor divisions, squares are 50μm on a side. I am running into the limitations of Sharpie marker as a contrast medium...

The OpenFlexure https://openflexure.org/ 3D printed XYZ microscope stage has repeatable sub-micron accuracy. The 1802 CPU was made with 8 micron tech, and the Z80 4 micron. Hmmm ....

We have a cunning plan at the #FabLab. We're going to take one of our many defunct Replicator #3Dprinter machines, rip the controller out, and replace it with something #RepRap that runs Marlin that we can get parts for. Should make for an interesting project.

Was pricing out some parts for my next #reprap build of a 3d printer and saw some neat stuff.

Really good Omron endstops that are sealed and don't have wiring issues are much cheaper than the BS boards we usually get, and Igus type T linear rails are cheaper than Hiwins now, have the same hole pattern, and are so much nicer to live with

Prusa 3D printer Hephestos is an open source 3D printer designed and
developed by the bq Department of Innovation and Robotics. Hephestos
is based on the Prusa i3 and adds several improvements to other
printers like PowerCode. Parts were developed by the RepRap community
with modifications and new parts added by bq. #3dprinting #reprap
