A good summary of the implications of the Houthi Red Sea attacks on shipping in direct retaliation to Israel’s war in Gaza. It explains the threat of escalation and the chaos it will mean to supply chains. However, nowhere does the article propose a simple solution: for the world to apply meaningful pressure on Israel to stop its genocidal war, as is the Houthi stated aim. #Houthi#Israel#Gaza#RedSea#Shipping#Genocide

The #Houthi rebels, who receive arms deliveries from #Iran, have struck yet another merchant vessel in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, #RedSea. This time, a German tanker was hit by an unknown missile.
We must not tolerate this Islamist terror against arbitrary civilian cargo ships!
Meanwhile in global #shipping... the problems in the #RedSea & the delays/alternate routes being taken to avoid danger, are disrupting the tightly organised shipping schedules used by many #container lines & ports - ships are arriving off schedule, disrupting (un)loading schedule sat the ports & causing bottlenecks at busy container terminals
Does it matter? Well such delays increase the friction (and thus costs) in many #supplychains, offering more pressure on prices... i.e #inflation.
The #RedSea for obvious reasons is becoming more & more dangerous for #shipping (wth the associated costs of #insurance) rising.... so along with the Panama canals drought problem, the #Suez route is also more & more problematic.
Of course this reflects much more serious issues that #supplychains efficiency, but the ripples of the conflicts around the Red Sea are also (like the #Ukraine conflict) also having more direct effects on distant markets/economies.
"The United States and 12 allies has given what amounts to a final warning to Houthi rebels, telling the militants to cease their attacks on vessels in the Red Sea or face potential targeted military action"
Yemen lays bare the cracks in the empire's facade. The West's reaction to stop a months-long relentless war, apartheid, and an alarming death toll nearing 25,000? Next to nothing. But Yemen disrupting the flow of global capital? Unforgivable.
Agreement would have granted Ethiopia access to Gulf of Aden under 50-year lease. Somalia has cancelled a controversial deal between Somaliland, a breakaway region of the country of around 18 million, and landlocked Ethiopia that would have allowed Addis Ababa access to the Red Sea....
The US doesn't get involved when there's #genocide, when over 10,000 children are murdered, or when a nation is facing starvation & disease; we get involved when someone is getting in the way of international commerce. Sure, intervening in the #RedSea is reasonable to deal with #HouthiRebels, but the #Houthis ≠ all #Yemen. Bombing another country's inland targets does not fix the situation, it kills innocent people in the process. This is why people hate America. #news#Israel#Palestine#Gaza
"Centcom: 5,000 small arms, 500,000 rounds confiscated over 2 years handed to Kyiv to help ‘defend against Russian invasion’ and ‘stop Iran’s destabilizing activities’ in Red Sea"
