#Unilever Plc will keep making #Cornetto and Carte D’Or in #Russia even after shedding its global ice cream unit.

Companies like Unilever condemned Russia’s invasion but finding buyers for the assets of “unfriendly countries” is challenging and incurs a large exit tax. #Mondelez, #Nestle and #Procter & #Gamble are among the Western multinationals that have maintained large operations in Russia.

In high-income countries, Nestlé brand have no added sugars them, in line with recommendations from major health organizations around the world and consumer pressure. But in low- and middle-income countries, Nestlé adds to those same baby products, sometimes at high levels, which could lead children to prefer sugary diets and unhealthy eating habits https://arstechnica.com/science/2024/04/nestle-baby-foods-loaded-with-unhealthy-sugars-but-only-in-poorer-countries/

"Two of the best-selling baby-food brands marketed by Nestlé in low- and middle-income countries contain high levels of added sugar, while such products are sugar free in its home country, Switzerland. These are the key findings of an investigation by Public Eye and the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN)."

Fewer than 60 multinationals are responsible for more than half of the world’s plastic pollution, with five responsible for a quarter of that.
The top five brands globally were The Coca-Cola Company (11%), PepsiCo (5%), Nestlé (3%), Danone (3%), and Altria (2%), accounting for 24% of the total branded count

The product with the highest sugar content was a #Cerelac #BabyCereal product sold in the #Philippines with 7.3 grams of sugar. While children under age 2 are recommended to have zero grams of added sugars in their diet, for reference, children aged 2 to 18 are recommended to have less than 25 grams (about six teaspoons) per day by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Just another of the many reasons why we don't buy Nestle products at home, and I didn't allow them at our congregation back when I was head of the kitchen - they're a sh!t company, dumping sub-standard products in poor nations that they would never sell at home. (Not to mention stealing their water for pennies on the dollar.)

This is predatory capitalism at work.
