I finally got an Access Virus! It’s a synth I’ve wanted for literally over 20 years, not really made any more (got this used). It's a multi-timbral virtual analog beast. Here's first playing I did with it: three different simultaneous patches using maybe 1/20 of its power, driven by the Deluge. This synth is pretty deep, I’ve a lot to learn. https://youtu.be/9AryfRkqao4 #accessvirus#jamuary#jamuary2024#dawless
I will not be able to participate to #Jamuary2024, but I do think it could interest some people around.
Last year it was an unforgettable experience. It was a very nice way to challenge myself and gather some ideas, and I ended up releasing a selection of my daily compostions
The prompts from @beto on https://jamuary.org/ were inspiring, and it was great to meet and listen the other artists.
This year it could be... I don't know, an epic #Bonkwave event ?
I use only one track with three layers of Polymer. Each layer has an arpeggiator with different steps and notes. As you can see, the effect is very hypnotic, and I activate it using the mutes of the multi-instrument. Of course, these parameters can be automated with Bitwig.
ok, #jamuary#jamuary2024#musodon etc --- this is admittedly hastily put together, speedrun style. sound choices are maybe not on point, vocal chops are pretty bad, the bass is.. eh.
but the original has been on my mind all week, so lets make a really bad bootleg
I started today’s #Jamuary track with sound recordings I made of wooden and metal clothes hangers. Then I added a recording of me squelching through mud in my wellies. Then it all took a dark turn.
for #jamuary 13 I decided to make good on my desire to incorporate some more varied timbres and textures.
so today I reached for the orchestra sample packs
I don't use this stuff a lot (aside from marimbas lol) but I really like working with "real" instrument sounds and doing stuff that plays with the uncanny valley
Ok, so I think I still want to go back and do a "proper" #jamuary for the 14th, but as I mentioned elsewhere I spent a good chunk of today working on another music project that struck me, so Im gonna count is as Jamuary.
anyway, this is a remix of Walkin on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves
One week, 7 tracks! I’ve been trying “Jamuary” for real this year: track per day for a month. Trying to only spend 30 mins on the idea and 30 mins practicing / “performing” on camera. Haven’t busted that budget too badly, but oof it’s hard not getting side-tracked. The playlist thus far: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLW9arycjoILjyq-uJbEUzIWd_b7Sj8hvV
this was literally my first time working with my digitone. been staring at me for months, daring me to try to learn it. well fuck you, digitone, I fuckin did it.
decided to show off some of the more mellow tones my fuzzyglump filters can do. the Casio FZ that the filter chips come from is best known for the wild overdrive it adds at high resonance. but it still sounds really smooth and saturated even with the resonance dialed back a bit!
this one is a bit more upbeat. lots of fun with percussion.
sometimes it takes a lot of work to keep a synth from taking up too much space in a song; other times you gotta find a way to make a single note to overwhelm everything.
I've been slowly and steadily doing more and more on twitch lately, with a bunch of streams for #jamuary2024. I think I'm going to settle on Fridays weekly, so here's today's session as I try to get back into the swing of things. If you like, give me a follow, I'd appreciate that!
