I think I'm Skyrim levels of in love with HZD now. It's not too difficult to run into new types of machines in the game, even this weird undocumented Strider I've come across.
I don't think it comes thru in this compressed, tone mapped JPG screenshot, but #HorizonZeroDawn with HDR enabled on a #SteamDeck OLED looks and runs way better than it has any right to on a handheld device. This has got to be one of if not the best looking game I've played on the Deck yet. With the "original" graphics preset (PS4 equivalent?) and HDR enabled on a 90hz OLED display it's holding 50+ fps, looking and feeling great. Really looking forward to this, 🙂
The Adventures of J-Loy continue! We finally know what the game's name means! We know what Zero Dawn is... but how did they do it? We won't find answers just sitting around. Maybe it's just over the Horizon...
I think Guerilla's developers were inspired by Utah's National Parks, but the scenery in Horizon Zero Dawn also reminds me of the Orgues d'Ille-sur-Têt (in France) 🏜️
Something that annoyed me in #HorizonZeroDawn was that the climbing system was so limited. You could only climb onto extremely conspicuous grip points in the wall that clearly were put there on purpose by... someone. It broke suspension of disbelief.
#HorizonForbiddenWest has been a LOT better about this. You still can only climb where they want you to, but it's much more natural, is all over the place, and now the climbing indicators are part of the projection by the Focus. Great improvement!
Morning Folks! I've been playing a lot of #HorizonForbiddenWest since the PC release last week and talk about some of my experiences. This is a gorgeous game but not one without a few slowdown issues in a single area of the game. That seems to have been resolved in a patch but talk through those issues nonetheless.
I'm happy to report that #HorizonZeroDawn (GOG version) runs pretty damn well on MBP (M1 Pro)!
Installed with #HeroicGamesLauncher, using the #Wine version that comes with Whisky. Xbox Series S controller works out of the box (connected via Bluetooth). Heroic Launcher is a bit fiddly/broken when it comes to Winetricks, but importing the Heroic WinePrefix as a “bottle” in Whisky lets me use Whisky's superior Winetricks.
Heroic has its advantages, as does Whisky, together they're a winning combo
