This morning after another fantastic #Monsterdon event, I remain gobsmacked by the original #Gojira#Godzilla film.
I do not know what headspace I was in when I watched it before, but this time, it hit home HARD.
It is a masterpiece.
After seeing Oppenheimer a few times last year plus reading the book, I've got much more historical context for why this film was made and what it meant -- and also the cultural/film norms that it broke.
Astounding in that context. Excellent food for thought.

i call this the "people fight back" suite and it's used to amazing effect in the new #GodzillaMinusOne movie. like you totally get there's all these visual and aural languages being created in this movie. it makes it a contained, cohesive world with its own internal logic.
Ishiro Honda really didn't pull back with #Gojira. it is SOOOOOO about Hiroshima & Nagasaki. the hospital scene, with the dead mother and her distraught daughter... it's just heartbreaking.
