One possible problem I see with #meta joining us is how it might lead to more harassment here.

Assholes who routinely tag people with shit can make for a bad experience. Dealing with one jerk is easy, but a server that hosts lots of users who do this can make being on the network shitty. That's the only good reason I know of for blocking a whole server, but that only works cause most instances are a small part of the #fediverse. It would be much harder to justify with #threads. #fediblockmeta

I'm a bit perplexed about the idea that a free and open internet platform needs this kind of oversight - especially considering all the tools ordinary users are given. If you see someone doing something you don't like, block them, and let your connections know you have, and why you did.

Eventually that person's account becomes isolated and they're screaming into the void... Yes, the jerks can make another account, but, really.

I choose who I interact with. I can walk away from people physically and online if I don't like what they've got to say...

Because of this, I don't feel that sweeping oversight by, what effectively becomes a monarchy (an association of kingdoms, so to speak) is the way to go.

That said, I've blocked everything #Meta from my instance.. because my instance hosts exactly one person - me - and I don't wish to mix my #Fediverse and my #Metaverse things. Individuals can do the same on their accounts on other instances by blocking domains.

Opinions such as mine turned into #fediblocks awhile back, so I'm not even sure if others are going to even see this reply.. and that's why I recommend blocking on an individual level rather than the instance level - taking choice away from an instance's users is, in my opinion, fascist.

JMO, YMMV.

@supakaity @ada how do you ladies deal with #fediblocks?

And I mean. I suppose there's a standard list of evil instance's somewhere and you add it to Hajkey. But:

    • where do you get the list from?
    • how do you defederate multiple servers?
