Have any of you used any of the importer scripts designed to import a Twitter archive into DayOne?

I have all my Mastodon and Instagram posts automatically going into DayOne via IFTTT. If I can get my Twitter Archive imported I'll have more or less everything I've posted since 2008 in DayOne.

Yesterday marked 1,000 days straight of using the Day One journaling app, so I wrote a post about how this one little app has become so central to my daily workflow: https://www.danyork.com/2024/03/1000-days-of-journaling-with-day-one.html

I also included a bit about how I use Day One for chronological note-taking and also use Obsidian for more topic-based note-taking.

Apple’s new Journal app appeared on my phone, so I made two one-line entries to try it out.

I don’t plan on using it again, or on recommending it to others.

With no (apparent) share or export facility, it’s a hard pass from me. Why, Apple? Is this a beta?

@ellane Yep, in the sense that I play with and test every single thing I can - software, operating systems, hardware etc. For fun. I would then weigh up its merits against the current pack leader, . So far, though, it doesn’t sound like a particularly worthy contender. I guess I’ll never find out for real.

I fell out of journaling last year a bit, but #DayOne coupled with Apple's Journaling Suggestions API has really gotten me back into it.

Six years ago today per , I received my first boutique , a VA87M. It was my second actual MK, but the very first TKL, the first that could be typed on at night without waking up the entire neighborhood, and the first to make me truly fall in love with the hobby. (The kiddo in the pic is now a 6’1 giant.)

I'm considering introducing a Day One-style feature/action in Obsidian. Anyone tried anything?

Oh neat. You know the new #Apple journal app that can recommend activity from other apps for journal entries?

Apparently that's an API that apps can opt into, and third-party apps can access it. For example: #DayOne just announced support for bringing your activity into journal entries.

Sounds neat. I'll play with it soon. https://dayoneapp.com/blog/introducing-journaling-suggestions/

I’m surprised (and very happy) that Apple’s Journal app is really a simple front end for a pretty robust API for journaling suggestions.

I’ve been feeding workouts, locations, and pics into #DayOne manually for years. It will be great to get these suggestions.

Apple’s Journal app is kind of smart — and kind of basic - The Journal app itself is incredibly basic — it’s the Mome... - https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/28/23935473/apple-iphone-journal-app-preview

@itnewsbot @dameoutlaw I’m going to be very curious how the Journal app works. I’m TRYING to journal (aka take notes on daily/weekly stuff) more and have been using an app called #DayOne which has been great.

After years of note-taking, I still find little use in obsessively writing down every single thing I do in a day.

What has been way more helpful long-term, has been gradually picking up the pieces of the puzzle in retrospective, piece by piece.

Apps like #DayOne make this a breeze, because I can start writing down a memory and date it back to the time and place it occurred. This way, my journal ends up containing only the things that have stood the test of time.

I’ve been weirdly missing my #MacBook and (even more weirdly) I’m happy to admit that. Really enjoyed #Mona and #DayOne for #Mac and.. okay. Those are literally the only reasons. If they only had thick clients for #Windows, ie development and product marketing teams that understand that not only Mac people would like to use #Mastodon and write diary entries. 😑

I used to use #IFTTT to add my Tweets to #DayOne. Does anyone know how to do that with Mastodon?

I really like #DayOne as a journaling app. But the fact that my very sensitive info is out there in a server thousands of miles away and subject to a company's policy makes me nervous.
That's why I prefer to journal in #Obsidian because it is local-first

"... local-first aims to bring all the advantages of the cloud—ubiquity, sync, and collaborative working, but without the cloud's problems."

For the last maybe 10 years I’ve been using a journaling app called as a diary. As times goes on it's really interesting to see what happened "on this day 8 years ago”. Learned recently of a new app called and have checked it out. I don't think it'll replace DayOne for me, but Daylio is mostly free and has some improvements over DO so I thought y'all might like to know about it. It's better than DO as it's possible to "microjournal" with it. You can just choose your mood from 5 options, and then there are sections for things like health, social, chores etc. So in 10 sec you could click on Good, and then Cooking, Gym, Movies and tv, and that's it. You can also add full notes like a real diary if you want, along with photos, and it also has a goal tracker and comprehensive stats per day. I really like it. For instance, today I just chose good, coffee, dishes.

Daylio is https://apps.apple.com/us/app/daylio-journal-daily-diary/id1194023242, DayOne is https://apps.apple.com/us/app/day-one-journal-private-diary/id1044867788

A few years ago, I set up an @ifttt automation to suck all my tweets into #DayOne and a Google sheet (which are backed up locally to HTML and CSV, respectively)

Now that Space Karen has shut off access to all tweets unless you are logged in, I’m glad I have the archive if I need it.

Remember, your internet data is not yours. If you want to save something, make sure you can hold the bits in your hand, even as a backup. Despite all the memes to the contrary, the internet is not forever.

I've connected the IFTTT automation to copy my Mastodon posts over to DayOne.

This post is to see if it works!

I'll edit this post if it does and also boost this post.

Edit: it works. See pics.
