On this day, October 26th 1944, the city of #Split was #liberated by the #Partisans from the occupation of Nazi Germany and their collaborators (and traitors), the Ustaše.
Glory to the liberators! Death to fascism, freedom to the people! ✊️✊️
Below is the special edition of Slobodna Dalmacija (Free Dalmatia) announcing the liberation: SPLIT, pride of Croatian #Dalmatia, HAS BEEN LIBERATED

Camouflage is all about the right place at the right time. The mystery is how does our vision learn to overcome some cues (like color and pattern) to focus on others (like symmetry and silhouette) to overcome the confusion effect and detect the animal.
Um yeah... crazy huge colorful flea beetle (Aspicela scutata). Whoever said blue is hard to find in nature didn't study tropical insects. I am really curious though if this is a refraction trick or if this is actual pigmentation. I presume its the latter.
Just a bumblebee where I wouldn’t normally expect to see any this time if the year, up in the hills of an island in #Dalmatia. It’s been raining far more than usual and the fields are green and in blossom, instead of the usual dry.
Mystery midget: #iNaturalist auto-suggestion didn’t even guess the insect order correctly. Holds itself like a mosquito, but only measures about 2.5 mm. Found on a pebble beach by a white pine tree secondary forest.
