Is there a better way to find friends and such or do I just need to hang around??
Yes! If your site allows (most do), follow #hashtags for topics that interest you, like #gardening or #tea, places you care about, like #Montreal or #Dakar, or groups you identify with, like #disabled.
I suggest using the website to follow hashtags, because some apps don't support this feature (but posts for a hashtag will still appear in your feed in apps once you've followed it).
"Imperial County farmers produce almost half a billion dollars’ worth of #hay in 2022. Some of it is used to feed nearly 400,000 #cows that are raised here in the scorching desert. Significant quantities are exported — both domestically and overseas.
Growing that much hay takes a lot of #water. But the district, like all agencies that distribute it, gets the water for free from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and charges growers only $20 for an acre-foot of water."
"Alfalfa to feed livestock in the Persian Gulf will consume about twice as much #water daily from Lake Guiers as the pumps and pipelines now convey to #Dakar.
The competition for water between #cities and #farms is intensifying everywhere, as urban areas grow and weather patterns shift on the warming planet. The conflict is particularly stark in developing nations that are resource-rich, cash-poor, weak in governance and vulnerable to exploitation."
