TIL about infrastructure cooperatives. Many of their ideas reasonates with my thoughts and the thread I started earlier 1. Here is a list of links to some of such coops and related resources:
What obligation do #platformcoops have to operate at the same scale as or even outperform their venture capital funded corporate counterparts? If a #platformcoop does not succeed in having a similar reach as major corporations with comparable features, should it be considered "low quality" or are there other standards of success worth considering?

Hidden Lotus Herbs is getting ready to move to our new #farm site and really ramp up our operations!
For some backstory,
I was the recipient of a fund from @coop to start a worker-owned #cooperative and decided to make it an herbal apothecary!
We've been operational for around six months and are now starting our regenerative agroecological farm and increasing the capacity of our free clinic.
However, the #renewableenergy systems we're building are more expensive than we budgeted for, and we could use some help getting the farm and clinic going financially.
We're really needing help from our community to make all this cool stuff happen!
If you can spare some $, please consider supporting our transition and future. If you can't, please share far and wide!
COOPESAFRA is a Popular Solidarity Economy Cooperative for Family Farming, Reforestation and Agroecology that aims to produce agroecological products for consumption and commercialization by its members.
I bookmarked this #Publishing article that basically asks, what are we paying trad pub for? While I do have an agent, an amazing one, actually! I'll be with this agent until he retires, no author should ever, ever, ever! Make a mood board of your submission! Your agent is your mood board! This would be a fantastic time for a non-discriminatory publishing cooperative to form right now. I know about Book view Cafe but they don't want blind writers like me or other blind writers. I hate self publishing. Seriously, I can't express how much I detest the self publishing process. Just because I have an agent, though, publishing is rough right now! This would be an excellent time for an indie publisher to rise up and not end up on Writer Beware. https://www.lilithsaintcrow.com/2024/04/we-gotta-talk-about-publishing/#SelfPublishing#Cooperative
In my ongoing quest for a #cooperative offering high end Internet infrastructure services, I read https://blog.cosocial.ca/about/
about @coop ,
and I wonder if there is something similar in place in the USA?
I'm intrigued by the notion of a member owned #coop because that might provide enterprise customers with greater long term commitment (assuming they apply Deming's principle 4, use one supplier)

“Quitting #capitalism requires political change & economic restructuring. But the most crucial transition is the psychological one — quitting the competitive, individualist, consumption-driven mindset at capitalism’s core. No economic reform will create lasting, positive change until we start seeing each other as #cooperative partners working toward shared prosperity. We must undergo a profound ideological transition before building an equitable post-capitalism future.”
“When #cooperative#housing debuted in New York in 1881, it was called a “revolution" — after all, the idea that people could not only live in apartments, but also have a say in their residential building's policies and politics, was a novel one. But how did this building ownership concept develop over the proceeding decades, and when did most co-ops shift from idealistic communal residences to nothing but a bureaucratic nightmare?”
#nyc#coop are an example of utopia idea gone very bad..
One of the best classes I ever took was about the history of leisure in United States & intersectionality w/racism. We didn’t cover co-ops but my professor & I were discussing how NYC co-ops were actually started so working class people could afford housing
Laughably these days it’s very much the opposite & incredibly difficult to get into one
I had the tab open for months, and finally bought my first book and signed up w/ Tertulia.com—a "co-op bookstore."
"Tertulia is co-owned by our co-op members, a community of avid readers. This means that we put the interests of readers, authors, and a healthy book ecosystem first."
It costs $25/year for free shipping & 20% off retail price. Which beats Amazon prime (if all you're buying is books).
I'm curious to see how this goes. Anyone else a member?
