As an old-school Mac gamer who loved Marathon back in the day (Bungie was originally a Mac-only game studio — Marathon was their breakout game before Halo), I really want to be more excited about this.
But Destiny left me cold, and this leads me to believe that this incarnation of Marathon may do the same: “Marathon is designed from the start as a PvP-focused game and won’t have a single-player campaign.”
Bungie has said that it won’t be communicating with Destiny 2 players on Reddit to keep its employees safe. This is in direct response to the harassment Destiny 2 developers have faced recently, which also involved some of them receiving grave threats....
Thinking about #Marathon some more: #Halo was basically already how Marathon's single-player would have developed. You had the story focus, you had the rampant AI friends (don’t tell me #Cortana isn't basically #Leela).
#Destiny was basically #Bungie trying to do something Halo-like but different and deeper and more MMO-like, and without pissing off MS who still own Halo.
So the only thing Bungie hasn't remade is the Marathon multiplayer. Guessing that's what the new Marathon will be.
Next time someone asks how to get caught up on the story of #Dedtiny2, #Bungie just released an hour long recap to get you prepped for #TheFinalShape. 😳🍿
In #Destiny2#SeasonOfTheWish, Bungie did a cosmetic collab with CD Project Red and added some Witcher themed armor. Looks cool, but I've never played it so I don't have an attachment.
However. There is also a hot tub in the HELM, complete with two Witcher swords, one having the wolf icon/pendant thingy in case there was any doubt.
Has #Bungie ever added in game items for a collab like this before? I don't think I have a problem with it, just seems like a big departure from the past.
It's so sad that some #gamedev companies are basically saying "don't expect our games to be as good as #baldursgate3 because we don't really like #games, we like profit"🤦🏻♂️like, thanks for showing your hand. I'll be hanging onto my wallet from now on when games from #Blizzard and #Bungie and other studios saying things like this, get released.
I honestly can't believe this is a thing.
Larian Studios has like 400 employees. Blizzard has over 8000. Do better or I'll just spend my money on games that deserve it.
Edit: because apparently I am "grossly misrepresenting" things being said:
Good morning to all of you amazing folks around the #Fediverse today!
For our #MorningMoments today, let's talk about our plans for the day. Tell me what you've already accomplished or what you hope to accomplish before the day ends.
For me, it's just the usual work stuff, then video games. Most likely an hour or so of Destiny 2, then more Starfield.
This stuff could and should be posted to their website and app first, but anywhere else but the obvious cesspool of Twitter.
Bungie needs to get on Mastodon. Or even Tumblr. But it's sad to see they keep supporting an objectively toxic property from a dangerous owner. #Destiny2

Grabbed this from eBay for less than a fiver!
How do you guys feel about the Solstice event so far?
There's been some significant changes to the gameplay loop this year, and I'm seeing a lot of mixed opinions. Interested to hear what you guys think!
