Been curious about what it's like to use Bluefin? Here's a quick tour of it, walking through some of the main changes we make to Silverblue! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_yyyUMecwo
For more stability, the Bluefin custom image defaults to GTS (grand touring support), meaning that we hang back one release of Fedora. It brings stability in general, but specifically to all the GNOME extensions we use.
Between some tweaks to brew, the implementation of offline ISO installers, and moving to grand touring support by default, we're cruising toward the release of Fedora Linux 40 to come out of beta.
There is still one more exciting change that is being considered for down the line, but overall we're ready to go. 🏎️
The new offline installer ISOs are now available! No more workarounds to installing Bluefin or Bazzite! Tell a friend that it's now as easy to install these custom images as it is for any other distro!
New proper #bluefin and #bazzite ISOs tonight! Plus we've made a GitHub action and container for anyone with a Fedora based OCI container to make a fresh ISO on the spot.
Bazzite and Bluefin will now show a Message of the Day when you open the terminal! This is to share tips and tricks to get you more familiar with your system, especially if it's your first time using a uBlue or Fedora Atomic image.
Can be toggled off and on with ujust toggle-user-motd
You've heard of rolling release. You've heard of long term support.
But have you heard of grand touring support?
Ooo baby, get yourself some Bluefin GTS for a smooth ride on the scenic route. You're still getting a major upgrade with new stuff every 6 months - you're just hanging back on the previous release of Fedora, in this case Fedora 38. 😎 👌 🚗
What if there was way to distribute your take on the Linux desktop without having to set up everything you need to, you know, deliver a distro?
Project Bluefin is the first example of how uBlue can be a platform for opinionated custom images! Specifically it's inspired by Ubuntu and aims to be solid for non-techies and developers alike.
