#OnThisDay, 8 Mar 1978, over 400 women challenged Queensland’s ban on political marches by march through Brisbane, Australia, demanding the end of violence against women, the right to abortion and lesbian rights. 51 people were arrested.
We learnt scant local history when growing up at Mount Macedon.
We learnt that Major Mitchell climbed and named the mountain. We learnt about the destruction and loss of life during the Ash Wednesday bushfires.
We learnt that the Victorian Governor, Robert Menzies and Derryn Hinch all had mansions here.
But there was never any mention of the significant Indigenous history.
