House impeaches #DHS Secy #AlejandroMayorkas, succeeding on 2nd try, in a rebuke of #Biden’s #immigration policy. The resolution is non-binding, however, & may not go very far in the #Senate bc even some #Republicans don’t believe that Mayorkas’s actions clear the bar for the high crimes & misdemeanors necessary for conviction.
#House & #Senate Republicans have denigrated fellow lawmakers, #Biden admin officials & witnesses in #racist ways, both in casual comments & in official settings.
Around the same time, #HouseRepublicans released their report on #impeachment charges against #AlejandroMayorkas, the #Cuban-born #DHS secy who is the first #Latino to lead his dept. Using unusually loaded language for a cmte report, the panel described its action as “deporting Secretary Mayorkas from his position.”
“Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) told reporters Thursday he is a “solid” no on a resolution to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the first Republican to commit to bucking his party amid concerns “this just isn’t an impeachable offense.”
