There are already many insecurities in today’s networks, reaching down to the infrastructure layers of communication technology. The Signalling System No. 7, developed in 1975 to route phone calls, has become a major source of insecurity for cellphones. In 2017, the CBC demonstrated how hackers only needed a Canadian MP’s cell number to intercept his movements, text messages and phone calls. Little has changed since: A 2023 Citizen Lab report details pervasive vulnerabilities at the heart of the world’s mobile networks.
So it makes no sense that the Canadian government would itself seek the ability to create more holes, rather than patching them. Yet it is pushing for potential new powers that would infect next-generation cybersecurity tools with old diseases."

Op dinsdag 25 juni begint de veiling van #frequenties voor snelle openbare mobiele communicatie. Met de #veiling verdelen we landelijk beschikbare frequentieruimte onder de deelnemers aan de veiling. Het gaat om frequentieruimte in de 3450 tot 3750 megahertz (MHz) band, ook wel bekend als de 3,5 GHz-band. Deze band is essentieel voor de verdere uitrol van #5G-technologie in Nederland. De licenties die worden vergund, zijn geldig tot en met 31 december 2040.

In the event of stability problems with mobile radio modems, it is therefore particularly worth taking a brief look away from the software and towards the hardware. Can the power supply really meet the high requirements? An examination with an oscilloscope shows even the smallest fluctuations in the millisecond range and can reveal possible problems.
In our specific case, we are investigating stability problems with a new modem, which can only be reproduced unreliably. In the video you can see that even small pings have a visible effect (voltage fluctuations of approx. 800 mV) on the voltage source.
Klingt erst mal schlimm. Ist es aber nicht. Denn 5g hat ganz spezielle Anwendungsgebiete, die gerade erst noch entstehen.
Für Otto hat 5g überhaupt gar keine Vorteile im Alltag. Eher noch im Gegenteil: Höheren Energieverbrauch. Also nicht verwunderlich. Sondern nur logisch.

Thanks to borrowing an eSIM from @zonuexe, I've now tested all four physical Japanese mobile networks, including the elusive Rakuten Mobile. My phone didn't lock onto their #5G, but seeing #LTE on them was good enough.
That's in addition to LTE and 5G on SoftBank and NTT, plus LTE on KDDI, that I was able to source myself :)

Beim #Selfhosting der #Nextcloud steht mir gerade #IPv6 im Weg. Da es hier kein #DSL gibt, sind wir mit #Telekom#5g verbunden. Eine öffentliche IPv6 haben wir uns schon geklickt. Es gab aber noch nie Berührungspunkte damit. Herausgefunden haben wir schon, dass es sich um eine /64 IPv6 handelt. Wo und wie fängt man denn jetzt sinnvoll an? Als Router kommt eine Fritzbox 6850 zum Einsatz.

The director of our business unit Software-based Networks, Prof. Dr. Thomas Magedanz, moderated a session on the topic of "Industry-specific drivers of open 5G campus networks" at the 5G and Industrial Wireless Conference Stage today.
We were also delighted to welcome Dr. Klaus Glasmacher from our funding body @BMWK at our booth today, who was informed about the latest developments in the project.
