With #LTE and #5g mobile connections, the demands on the voltage sources have also increased: In particular high peak currents of approx. 4 A @ 3.7 V and more can push some circuits and the voltage converters installed in them to their limits.
In the event of stability problems with mobile radio modems, it is therefore particularly worth taking a brief look away from the software and towards the hardware. Can the power supply really meet the high requirements? An examination with an oscilloscope shows even the smallest fluctuations in the millisecond range and can reveal possible problems.
In our specific case, we are investigating stability problems with a new modem, which can only be reproduced unreliably. In the video you can see that even small pings have a visible effect (voltage fluctuations of approx. 800 mV) on the voltage source.
Klingt erst mal schlimm.
Also nicht verwunderlich. Sondern nur logisch.
#TIL (or re-learnt) that the "5G" in "5G WiFi" is a short form of the 5 GHz frequency for #WiFi networks and doesn't have any connection with #5G (the mobile standard)
Okay, I didn’t expect #5G to actually make a difference sub-6GHz. But here we are, with the fastest Speedtest I ever had on a cellphone.
Btw, this was inside a mall and I don’t even know where the tower is. #networking#internet
I wonder when #5G will become the standard and you don’t have to pay extra anymore to use it with some providers.. Do we have to wait for #6G for that? 😄
Thanks to borrowing an eSIM from @zonuexe, I've now tested all four physical Japanese mobile networks, including the elusive Rakuten Mobile. My phone didn't lock onto their #5G, but seeing #LTE on them was good enough.
That's in addition to LTE and 5G on SoftBank and NTT, plus LTE on KDDI, that I was able to source myself :)
Yep, I'm that much of a cell network nerd. Any questions?
🚀 Successful start for the CampusOS project at the HANNOVER MESSE!
Together with our partners, we are presenting open #5G campus networks for networked construction sites at our stand in Hall 15, Stand H13! The director of our business unit Software-based Networks, Prof. Dr. Thomas Magedanz, moderated a session on the topic of "Industry-specific drivers of open 5G campus networks" at the 5G and Industrial Wireless Conference Stage today.
We were also delighted to welcome Dr. Klaus Glasmacher from our funding body @BMWK at our booth today, who was informed about the latest developments in the project.
#CampusOS is open to new partners, so be invited to visit our stand and talk to us directly if you would like to find out more about the benefits and practical application examples of open #5G campus networks!
Having power issues sometimes is the "It's always DNS" equivalent in the embedded electronics world.
When we wanted to put one of our customer projects into operation, we noticed strange problems with a Quectel modem that we had not had before. Of course, from a software developer's point of view, the software was initially suspected of causing problems. But slowly a different picture emerged ...

🌲 🚒 🌳 We have successfully tested our Nomadic Node set-up for temporary 5G campus networks for fighting forest fires with our partners in the ALADIN project in Brandenburg: 🎬 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YI0ZMsLAnA
The #CampusOS flagship project adapted our Nomadic 5G Node for a blueprint for modular, portable campus networks. Together with industrial partners, we will be presenting the benefits of 5G campus networks for construction at HANNOVER MESSE next week.
Schade!
Wir werden dem aber sicherlich weiter nachgehen. Sehr spannend!
At this year's Hannover Messe, the #CampusOS lead project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, is demonstrating how a #5G campus network can be successfully set up and operated in industry.
