There’s something so incredibly broken with Google calendar when you track all your flights and travel appointments that take place in other timezones.

It auto-adjusts time stamps to your current timezone that you view your calendar in, so you see things like a flight at 4am or a hotel check in at noon, which you know are fundamentally wrong.

@mathowie Is that because you want to remember that your 6:41pm flight starts with the 6 and not 3:41pm in your current time zone? Have you missed a flight because you misremembered? I have been incredibly appreciative that the thing manages to show a correct "block" of time for my or others' flights, presuming it imports the local times for individual legs of a journey for a flight correctly which it has done for a long time.

@mathowie What else would you have it do, particularly in grid mode?

@jwz It has the city names of the airports and the hotels, I kinda wish those would stay at 7pm eastern, maybe with a stripped pattern or special color to indicate it's not in Pacific time when I'm viewing it within the pacific time geo zone?

I was reviewing some future travel and almost canceled a hotel reservation because it appeared on the wrong day as pacific time.

@mathowie But that would be madness. You have a phone call scheduled at 7am Pacific and a flight at 7am Eastern on the same day, and you want them to show up on the same grid cell as if those 7s mean the same thing? Madness I tell you!

@jwz @mathowie My biggest request is a confirm dialog for "You are creating an event in GMT when you have other events that day in CET. Is this the correct timezone?".

I have missed so many trains, planes, and appointments because they were only off by an hour when corrected to localised time.

@jonty @jwz @mathowie I never let it change the display timezone, that's madness.

Travel stuff, in particular flights, all go via Tripit which sorts this out since it knows where you will be; it's become a little clunky though.
