The development of PV in Germany has been a mind-blowing rollercoaster in the last years and is such a great example of political decision making and its consequences. https://energy-charts.info/charts/installed_power/chart.htm?l=de&c=DE&year=-1&expansion=installation_decommission&legendItems=cw1

@bastianallgeier but there’s a years-long lag between policy being made and new power actually being connected to the grid, right? The offshore wind coming online in the Netherlands in the coming years is policy from 2017

@leonoverweel @bastianallgeier I don't think that stands true for PV installations, because a huge chunk comes from private installations (I don't have numbers, though). A wind turbine is mighty expensive and has a lot of regulations to follow. Whereas installing solar on one's roof is a lot less hassle and way cheaper. Opening up the regulations and raising the allowed amount of installed Watts for example has within weeks lead to many of my neighbors discussing to get one now.

@Lippe @leonoverweel exactly! Since 2023, new installations are also VAT-free which gave a pretty drastic immediate boost. The big drop in 2012/13 is also related to a policy change that dropped feed-in prices significantly
