DH and I built a 15x25 hoop house this spring in our suburban backyard & I had an amazing experience of easy, lush growing of flowers, fruits and veggies in it. I still have winter greens, beets, and carrots I have been harvesting from, and I'm excited to get a big jump on spring here, where the high plains meet the Rockies. We moved here from SoCal 16 years ago & this was a huge gift to myself. My growing season just flipped from 5 to 7 months or longer!
At the end of January I lost my best-ever dog. I had decided not to get another dog, but in August, my partner encouraged me to see if there might be a rescue dog who would suit us.
I did, and at the end of September, we brought home a very sweet 10-year old setter who had been in a difficult situation for about a year.
She has adapted amazingly to her new home, and she brings us delight every day.
@dancinyogi So many wonderful things were brought into being in 2023, from the HOA finally landscaping the front of our unit to mitigate flooding every time it rained to successfully avoiding covid for one more year. Best is that Mom cleared her 90th birthday and is still kicking, still living independently, with a little support from her kids. 😊
@dancinyogi We made a leap toward "better" and it was terrifying and second-guess-inducing but it has been so great for our whole family. If you're trudging and miserable, y'all, and you know where your heart wants to be: we just wish we'd let ourselves do it a bit sooner.
I published my debut novel and saw it climb to the #20 spot on Amazon's Bestsellers list for Time Travel Fiction and Technothrillers. As a result I was able to become a member of the SFWA (a lifetime goal).
After almost resigning from my job, I was transferred to another business unit, where I feel a lot better, working with nicer people and advancing interesting projects.
@dancinyogi A game i worked on once again won the award for Innovation and Accessibility, and I was honored at the game awards with a direct name drop, thanking me for my involvement. It was a truly great moment for me.
@dancinyogi Being prescribed a muscle relaxant for an abdominal strain whose side effect was the deepest, most satisfying and epic dream-filled sleep. Never felt so rested in my life.
@dancinyogi New job with a 30% pay cut... And better hours, better boss, better coworkers, better coffee, closer to home... It was scary, but it's been a good investment in myself.
@dancinyogi A little red cardinal all of a sudden started hanging out in the tree in front of my window this year; then I started seeing a little green cardinal hanging out too. Not much to do when working from home, so seeing them both was a nice uplift for the spirits any time they were there.
@dancinyogi After 10 years of GPs saying it couldn't be done, a pharmacist increased my HRT (surgical menopause mid 40s bcs unDxed endometriosis) by 50% and within two months I was no longer suicidal.
Didn't expect that but it's very welcome.
Trying to make the most of the reprieve before GPs insist I come off of it altogether in three years.
