Time for this week's and News video!

In this one, we have switching CEOs after launching a frankly overpriced service, we have doubling down on their malicious compliance, this time breaking PWAs voluntarily, and we have Wine and DXVK coming to , but closed source:

@thelinuxEXP I am not using Firefox because i love Mozilla. But because i just don't want to use Chrome and Chromium garbage.

Mozilla should focus on their Browser first. They are spending time and effort on other things like Vpn and what not. Who ever is their next CEO, they just need to focus on the main product ie Firefox. I just want consistent modern design and features in the browser without compromise on privacy.

@ronnieverse @thelinuxEXP Totally agree!

mahenderkar,

@thelinuxEXP
Do you like using PWAs ? U believe they do, even if they're just a full screen shortcut for a chrome website.

@mahenderkar @thelinuxEXP Oh yeah. Can’t tell the difference in a lot of cases with a native app. Most « apps » I’ve ever shipped for iOS and Android were PWAs in disguise.

@thelinuxEXP That's so weird, because they just "fixed" PWAs on desktop Safari. Hell, I'm using it right now for Mastodon, as there are no decent tooters for macOS. It's almost like Apple is picking which platforms are able to do what depending on the regulations imposed in various parts of the world... Isn't that weird? #sarcasm

mahenderkar,

@thelinuxEXP
Am I right to think that Mozilla's decline has been started ? I still believe an Engineer CEO would do better.

@mahenderkar @thelinuxEXP Mozilla doesn’t need an engineer to lead them, they need someone with a vision, and the capacity to implement it. If that’s an engineer, cool, but generally, it’s more product focused people that can effectively implement this.

mahenderkar,

@thelinuxEXP
But visions always need huge investments & capital, which Mozilla lacks compared to even #Redhat.

thelinuxEXP,

@mahenderkar @thelinuxEXP Yeah, but they can’t regain any relevancy without a vision and a strategy to implement it.

I never ran a company or non profit, so I might be saying nonsense here, but I’d say they need to secure the only 2 products that work for them now: Firefox, and Thunderbird. You focus on that with ALL your resources, and you get funding for these things to really make them better than alternatives. THEN you look at new services around that.

mahenderkar,

@thelinuxEXP Core of these both is #Gecko Engine. I hope they improve it further so that it stays relevant besides #WebKit & #Blink in the future.

@mahenderkar @thelinuxEXP I hope so too!
