After rewatching this video of #ElonMusk melting down, I realize that the #Fediverse may have a new problem: 300 million #Twitter migrants seeking out new home.
If you are on a #Mastodon, #Misskey, #Pleroma, #Pixelfed, etcetera instance, you might want to consider sending some funds to the site owner (& Fediverse platform creators) as they will need it sooner rather than later.
I expect the cost of instances to increase further once #Threads embraces #ActivityPub.
@darnell@kotaro A lot of what the large majority of X users want is already available on other commercial networks. If twitter folds they’ll just fallback to Instagram or even BlueSky or Threads because that’s what the ad-supported media will offer as alternatives.
@santiago@darnell People need to wake up. Just as there is no reason to use Truth Social except for Trump supporters because it is vast in size, there is no reason to use X except for Elon fanatics and hired operatives.
@kotaro@darnell There’s a lot of moral shades in between users of truth social and this here. We live in a lefty bubble (and I like it) but there’s a lot of people who just don’t care. They go on with their daily job and think politics is a waste of time. Billionaires invest a lot to make sure this is actually the dominant mindset.
@santiago@darnell I am not blaming the users of X for their negligence. Sensible companies, governments, and local governments should stop using X for advertising placements and PR activities on X.
@kotaro@darnell I can understand companies wanting to keep a presence where most people still are. But governments (as some already did) have no better option than the fediverse to share their oficial public service information.
