@davemark I don’t disagree with GM (or Mercedes) on some of this stuff actually.

Imagine giving up 50% of the user experience of your product to a third-party. Yes, 90% of info-tainment systems in cars are terrible, but the idea of giving up control to a 3rd party doesn’t seem like a great move either.

There’s a reason why Apple wants to own the whole widget, because that way they are in control of the entire experience. The “experience” of different car brands are suuuper important to owners, car software is a way to differentiate.

Flat out not supporting the most basic implementation of CarPlay is dumb though (at least Mercedes got that part right).

@ellenich See my most recent post. Car OSes should support all users. If not, that's a fail, IMO. Totally agree with your point about cars wanting their brand to show through.
