@msquebanh It doesn't matter your marksman skills, it matters what goes on in your head. Russell Williams, Jeffrey Delisle, Jason Whalen , Kendrick Barling

msquebanh,

@Rasta Absolutely!

@msquebanh While it's odd at such senior positions, often the public condemns the military for a wacko member, that they had in their community for 18 years, and the military for under 10. Who they were was long since defined.

msquebanh,

@Rasta I think some of these violent nutbars actively seek out positions where they can use their jobs/career/title as a cover & for a sense of power.

Rasta,
@Rasta@mstdn.ca avatar

@msquebanh Absolutely, same with prison workers, and others that like a feeling of power or control over others. And for the free training, not available elsewhere

msquebanh,

@Rasta Affirmative. The prison guard experience was told to me by a friend who resigned before he reached pension payout because he couldn't handle how the system protected the guards who shouldn't be dealing with anyone, much less contained prisoners. He faced bullying, harassment & ostracization for trying to report multiple misconduct action by colleagues. He suffered severe PTSD & is still in therapy for that, years later.

@msquebanh Good morning, I took a pause and did some stuff, including sleep ;P
I feel like a philosopher, pondering the mysteries of the universe.. why would someone want to be a prison guard? I mean, it's a job, yes, high risk, probably not overpaid. It's easy to see how someone would want a position like that to abuse prisoners or alter boys. It's a control thing. Sadistic behavior.. probably abuse cats when no one is looking.

msquebanh,

@Rasta I think some people fell into it because of family career history & family pressure to 'make the family proud' - not too different than cops & military.

@Rasta @msquebanh If you are a prison guard you can make a lot of money selling drugs to prisoners (captive market) and there is very little chance you will get in trouble for it. I think that’s one of the primary motivators. I assume all prison guards are drug dealers until proven otherwise.

Think about it — how else would drugs get into prisons?

Rasta,
@Rasta@mstdn.ca avatar

@sidereal Oh, that too. I'm sure there's money to be made on any contraband smuggled in. Who better to smuggle than guards. It's like who better to commit crimes without consequences than those who police @msquebanh

@Rasta @msquebanh Yep. One of my friends went to prison and bribed a guard to sneak them in DND manuals (not approved by prison library) and dice (not allowed bc of gambling) so they could play RPGs.

@sidereal @msquebanh All the good stuff is on the inside

msquebanh,

@sidereal @Rasta Affirmative. In my young adult yrs, I met a former prison guard who worked at 2 jails here, on Vancouver Island. Met him at my weed dealer's home. He was making lots of side $ by doing illegal drug sales to prisoners. Apparently a few guards were part of the smuggling drugs into jails team at the time (90s). Not sure what it's like now but it likely still happens a lot.

msquebanh,

@sidereal @Rasta In BC - at Agassiz jail - the prisoners have gone high tech. They've been getting drone drug drops.
