@starbreaker looks like my friend made it the show in CZ

@starbreaker I have! I love Back to Times of Splendor and, really, all of their stuff — one of my best friends is flying/flew to CZ for the anniversary show from Seattle.

@starbreaker I love it all haha — funnily enough I taught myself web dev, in part, working on stuff for Cynic. I still help them out here and there — Paul’s one of the nicest folks around. You might like Augury too — I want to rewrite their site out of Next at some point. https://augurymetal.com/

@starbreaker Morbus Chron and Sweven are good proggier ones too — the former broke up and the band leader formed the latter.

@starbreaker oh nice! Not too much Voivod influence with Augury but Martyr’s frontman Dan Mongrain is in Voivod now — Martyr tends more technical/thrash but they put out 3 great LPs.

@starbreaker the new Tomb Mold LP is quite proggy too.

@starbreaker ohh yeah they fit right into that sound! The new Tomb Mold is definitely a favorite (though I love all their stuff). Have you heard Vektor? https://vektor.bandcamp.com/album/terminal-redux

I was big into power metal when I first got into metal — Blind Guardian, Symphony X, Manticora et al

@starbreaker woah! That’s awesome — my dad was big on Pearl Jam and Nirvana and I slowly went heavier from there.

Vektor is more tech/thrash but I quite like it.

I get that! I stayed with them for a week or so and went to the release show for their 2nd album. Their lead guitarist Mathieu has an instrumental project called Humanoid he released an LP for called Remembering Universe.

@starbreaker haha nice! I haven’t — the frontman of one of my favorite bands, NoMeansNo, would dress up in a getup kinda like that with sunglasses and a priest’s collar.

@cory My dad was big on ELP, Renaissance, King Crimson, Mahavishnu Orchestra, early Genesis with Peter Gabriel on vocals, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, the Allman Brothers, and the Marshall Tucker Band. I got heavier and weirder from there.

He couldn't stand BOC because Godzilla and Don't Fear the Reaper got way too much airplay, but I got into them because of songs like Black Blade, Astronomy, ME-262, and Flaming Telepaths.

@starbreaker my dad pointed me at Yes, King Crimson (and my mom fell asleep at a Floyd concert after they got a puppy the night before). I found Mahavishnu via a mention from Cynic crediting them as inspiration and fell in love with all of Miles Davis' stuff after seeing the connection from the folks in Mahavishnu.

@starbreaker woah, that's awesome! I should really get into ELP or give them a listen at some point. I love Yes' first 3 records but lost interest a bit from there. I dropped off following King Crimson after Discipline too.

@starbreaker haha 30 minute songs can be a stretch — Edge of Sanity's Crimson and Crimson II hit the 40+ minute mark but I don't make it through super often.

@starbreaker I don't know what it is about Miles but everything he did clicks with me and I haven't found another jazz musician where that's been the same case.

I don't typically get into dedicated piano music but I'll give her a listen!

@cory Also, this is an old favorite of mine.
