I've posted my upscaled versions of the first two episodes of Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light to YouTube! I ended up compromising a little sharpness to keep it from getting too much of that upscale smudginess, and I think it looks pretty good. There's another upload there at the original resolution if you want a before and after. #RetroCartoons#Visionaries#Hasbro#80s#AIUpscaling
The Inhumanoids episodes that are available on YouTube currently are my rips, and the person who did Visionaries at the same time made it sound like a lot more work than my Inhumanoids project. But once I got the Visionaries DVDs I understood. I had to splice the opening onto every episode, on top of other little frame-shaving edits. It was not great! I can upload the ISOs if anybody's interested.
To our #lgbtq+ friends & loved ones: happy #pride. ♥️ We love & celebrate you; & until the day there are no longer attacks on your existence, your rights, & your happiness, we stand & fight in solidarity with you. 🏳️🌈
Unsure how much of a hit this track was over here in the Nordics. I can't recall even having heard this track before, so this will be going on repeat a couple of times 😄
While I love Vince Clarke and his synth wizardy, I never could get onboard with Andy's vocal stylings, so only got their debut album and a few singles back in the day.
These #80s kids have a new 80s kids song coming out Friday!
Just in time to help us kick off summer with joy & sunshine & feel-good vibes. We're so in love with this one, and so excited to share it with you.
We didn't plan it this way, but it just so happens that this classic gay anthem is coming out on the eve of #Pride month; we can't think of anything that would make it sweeter. See you Friday!
(and yes, there are clues hidden within this post 😉 ... any guesses?)
I've been using computers since the early 80s, so the following makes me feel somewhat disconnected from reality: I am currently backing up a 1 terabyte drive to another 1 TB drive at several hundreds of megabytes per second.
Inner kid me who was using cassettes as storage is finding these numbers to be absurd.
WALL OF VOODOO
Mexican Radio
1982 Europe 7” single @ #45rpm
Another great one from my stack of 7” scores from this afternoon.
One of the weirdest, quirkiest “hits” of the #80s from one of the oddest bands ever.
Stan Ridgway created and worked at Acme Soundtracks, right across from the old Masque in Hollywood. He went from doing film scores to getting involved in punk, and the rest is weirdo art pop history.
As I work today I'm listening to the soundtrack from the 1982 Conan the Barbarian film that was composed by Basil Poledouris. Things are feeling fairly barbaric at the moment here in the Arizona desert
@jake4480 Best damn soundtrack ever written. There are any number of composers who are better than Poledouris overall, but this particular score is the top of the heap.
@FredH I think I have to agree. It just TRANSPORTS you there. I'm such a huge fan of the movie. I've been working on a blog post about some of my favorite films, and I listened to a lot of different soundtracks after this one (They Live, Total Recall, etc) and there was some great stuff, but yeah, this one still stands out far beyond the others.
Gary Numan released Telekon, my favorite of his records, in 1980. It was the first vinyl I bought as a teen in the 90s. Hearing this intro track and the album that followed was mindblowing. Definitely listen to this whole record if you get a chance.
Here's "This Wreckage", the first song on Telekon, one of the best album opening tracks EVER:
@VampiresAndRobots hell yes!! I didn't pay much more than that either haha - just a couple bucks if I remember right. What DEALS. This album is SO special.
