Request for feedback: how would you change this compiler error? Can you tell what's going on? What the problem is? Do you get a sense of how you might be able to solve it?

@ekuber I think the second time I saw it, I would jump straight to the purple and cyan section as having the specific information I needed, with maybe a glance at the red.

(this doesn't mean the other information is bad, though. It just seems more useful for the first time someone sees this error than after they've become familiar with it)

I'm trying to put together a tutorial on systems-ish things for data scientists (https://gvwilson.github.io/sys-tutorial/). One of the reasons I'm struggling is that the examples are much, much harder to automate than those in the SQL tutorial (https://gvwilson.github.io/sql-tutorial/). I know it's possible, but running multiple processes concurrently, some of them inside Docker containers—it's a lot more work, and leaves my system littered with after-effects that (ironically) make reproducibility really hard. #grumble

@gvwilson "The Sudonomicon" is a very entertaining title.

I swear, so much complexity of my life right now comes from me wanting to be able to graphically draw out an interconnected hypergraph but also have a convenient textual representation of said hypergraph

I'm sure this makes zero sense to people. But ugh. It's so frustrating to have the ideas in your brain and just not be able to really tease them out in a useful way for others

Signed,
trying to figure out how to map "do the platform engineering thing more better" into strategy and architecture

@hazelweakly Like a whiteboard that generates a .dot file for what you draw? I'd like that too.

I love explaining complicated subjects in a quippy way that isn't necessarily wrong. For example:

Kubernetes is 20 while-true loops in a trench coat pretending to be a container orchestration platform.

What are your favorite quippy ways to explain a complicated topic? It could be anything! I'm just curious what y'all have :)

@hazelweakly

Object-orientation is anthropomorphization as a programming technique.

Spreadsheets are a mediocre-or-better solution to every small or medium-sized data problem. (followed by: many problems are secretly data problems)

Knitting is loops holding other loops in place until you get fabric. So is crochet, but differently.

Legacy software is a massively-layered palimpsest of arguments between humans and computers.
