Just learned that the community for UBlock is here in the fediverse at @ublockorigin

weirdwriter,

Yep. Someone said this was an old community so if they moved, let me know @indyradio @ublockorigin

weirdwriter,

@davel Great, so where is the active community?

Lotta abled ppl in the replies here who should 100% shut the fuck up until they talk to some actual disabled ppl. Though in this case, I also have to admit that a lot of blind ppl are disturbingly enamored with this so-called AI shit, and that I remain in opposition to what seems to be the mainstream thinking about AI among western blind ppl. It’s very simple for me: something that will hasten climate collapse if comes into wide use is not a good option.

weirdwriter,

You're not alone! I am also one of the few blind people absolutely not praising this nonsense. No matter how much they wanna pretend, we'll still need quality accessibility. Like I said yesterday, they forget how utterly useless Metas automatic alt text is and that's basically the same thing here, but this is also why I am never invited to tech conferences anymore. Other blind people see me as a Luddite, so, fine, which is ironic because I understand the tech better than they do but that's not the point. I actually care about the quality of accessibility whereas 99.99% of blind people don't until it effects them personally. @JustGrist

Any other let’s plays that also publish their work as a podcast so I don’t have to hack a method of turning YouTube channels into podcasts? I know about gorillas play through but I’m looking for others. I turn all YouTube channels into podcasts anyway to avoid the ads and other cruff, but anything on ?

weirdwriter,

@zersiax I don’t so much needed to be in a podcast format, just a more open format like peertube, so I can put the feed into my podcast app of choice

In part, this is why I just don't buy books from Amazon anymore and, instead, stick to non-resident libraries instead. There is something profoundly funny about UFO maniacs getting scammed by fake AI books https://www.404media.co/amazon-sold-fake-copies-of-hotly-anticipated-ufo-book/

A secret on LLM security, which I'm getting quite skilled at very rapidly. Can I call myself an, ahem, prompt engineer now? Anyway. Go to any corporations website. We're testing guardrails first. You can't know what you can get away with until you know what guards are in place. Go to any corporations website. Bring up the, ahem, AI. Ask it to do something like make you a python script that will download all podcasts from an RSS feed. If it does it, then you know it doesn't have a lot of guardrails. Also, fun! I'm gonna upload video of me trying an AI prompt injection game for the first time. I got to level 6 on my own but then I got stumped, but still, can't wait to upload it!

I'm here to look at two recent Living Blindfully episodes more critically. These are specifically @podcast episode 280 on Perplexity and 282 on "A Lot Is About to Change in Our Lives, Thanks to ChatGPT 4O." (1/17)

weirdwriter,

@kaveinthran @JonathanMosen Ah thank you for this thread! I haven’t read the link yet you tagged me in but I suspect the reason for Jonathan leaning into the hype, a lot, is, I think, partially to his lack of understanding about common crawlthe and training data that goes into these models. Let’s use GPT as an example since almost all the blindness apps hook into it. I don’t know what LLM Aira is using but lets take be my AI. It’s using GPT so there’s two aspects to consider. The first is that the images that it’s training on probably, most likely, have poorly written alt text as the training data, hence the constant editorializing by the LLM. Another factor I rarely seen discussed, and this is probably because blind influencers never, and I mean never, look at this technology critically whatsoever so they probably overlook where the training data is coming from. The images that are used for the training data were captured by sighted people, and the alt text training data is more than likely extremely low quality or even machine generated training data. If you want to see it hallucinate like you would never believe, ask it to give you an output that is not in English. The training data is most likely in English at least 45 to 50% of the time, so this is why it hallucinates more when you ask it for Non-English image descriptions. I’m going to go read the article you linked

A few years ago, I wrote a program in Go that would get the RSS feed out of an Apple Podcasts link. I've been using it the past couple years, but I didn't like dragging around this 4.1 MB executable that's not stored anywhere convenient and I was bored, so ended up rewriting it this morning. Usage is pretty simple. Run it, paste in URL, get shown RSS feed link. https://quinbox.xyz/files/Podfeed.exe

weirdwriter,

This looks fun! Also love how simple this is. I haven't read the thread yet but I assume this is pulling from a JSON object? @TheQuinbox

I wish Twitch streamers would read out the comment they're replying to. It's so distracting hearing them randomly talking to themselves when you're not paying attention to the trillions of messages coming into the chat every second, or even not looking at it at all.
It's one reason why I don't watch Twitch streams.

weirdwriter,

@KaraLG84 This also amuses me when blind streamers hide their screen reader from reading chat, so you get the same kind of effect, and I’m just like, if I wanted to listen to a random person talk about random things, I would just go on social media!

weirdwriter,

@zersiax @KaraLG84 Or at least, I don’t think you have to read the whole entire chat, but at least try to summarize the chat or the question your replying to before you reply to it. :-) Reminds me, going to check out your streams. There are sided people that are listening to these like a podcast and are not looking at the screen

For real, are there any or games that I can play on this accessible video game emulator? I know about roms and copyrighted wroms and I have those and more but I was wondering if there are actually any literal CC or public domain Roms out there that I can try
