Every movie review on IMDB that starts off by talking about "political correctness" is going to get a vote of "not useful" from me.
Why?
Because, if you enjoyed the movie because it is – or you at least think it is – offensive to others, then we have absolutely zero in common and your review is not about anything that actually matters to the quality of the movie. I'm not interested in your imaginary culture war.
Ok, so I got the Facebook email today about the sneaky change in their TOS to steal more user data. This time for "AI".
That's it. I deleted my account. I wasn't using it anyway, but I kept it to keep Messenger working. I created a new Messenger account instead for the handful of cases where I still need it.
I had not yet accepted the changed TOS from last year, and had to "consent" to those outrageous terms too just to get to the delete button. Clearly illegal.
Ooh, new neighbours moving in. I said hi to them earlier when they were around for the handover. They seem nice. The guys helping them move were clearly promised pizza, because I could hear them discuss it. 😁
Any Qt + Python devs out there with any experience on calling deleteLater() from the Python side?
I have some costly dialogs I want cleared on close, and so far I've been running deleteLater() in the closeEvent, which is clearly a little risky. I do get the very rare segfault especially if I close one particular dialog which has a QTimer singleShot call. If the deleteLater() is called when it is running, I get a RunTImeError.
Another update on "memory leaking" when combining Qt and Python. It seems using lambda functions as slots for signals on dialogs block the widgets from being deleted by Qt.
I just rewrote the code and added dedicated slots for the four buttons sharing the same slot via lambdas, so no big deal, but maybe just disconnecting the signals on close would have been enough.
This week, plus four more weeks until I can start my summer vacation. Four full weeks of no meetings and no work. Can't wait! Already counting down.
Sometimes I think that I would like to take a sabbatical, like a full year, to do other things. But I also know that last time I was between jobs* for three months, I got very bored.
I was literally between jobs. As in, I had a new job contract, but was waiting for a security clearance to go through so I could start.
One benefit of a Monday being a holiday because someone did something 2000 years ago is that I can treat it as a work day where I work on my open source project instead of regular work code. 😁
Is there anyone on here that has a recommendation for NVIDIA graphics cards? I haven't used them for a very long time, only AMD, so not really up to date on them.
I need it to run fine on Linux, which I hope has improved now. I will use it for not very demanding games like WoW, and for Machine Learning. I currently have an AMD Radeon RX 5700 GPU.
I was considering a Dual GeForce RTX 4070 OC, since it would fit in my box. I can't have any of the super long ones.
@risike It definitely is still there. They undeleted the content, which thankfully wasn't a lot because they've always been gatekeeping asshats over there. My account is still there too as they completely ignored my GDPR request.
The only 100% sure thing here is that I will never contribute an iota of content to that site ever again. Exploitation is definitely a deal breaker.
So, I started playing World of Warcraft again this weekend ... 😁
I've been playing it on and off since just after its European release in 2005. My oldest characters have reached legal drinking age. 😅
I stopped playing in 2021 as I really disliked the Shadowlands expansion. The one before was excellent, and I'm now playing Dragonflight from 2022, which also seems good so far. There is a new one coming after the summer or thereabouts. We'll see how long I last this time!
Atlassian is so bad at UX that it boggles the mind that they're still in business. Jira is a monster that requires infinite patience to try to wrangle into submission. I hate every moment I spend in that tool.
@Benhm3 Yeah, I've used ServiceNow a fair bit too on an earlier project I was on for the same contract. It doesn't look very appealing, and it's a little intimidating, but not that hard to get used to. Once you do, it works fairly well. Jira I've used for years, and still find it a total mess.
