It's 2024 and we still don't have a straightforward way for vimrc to persist across ssh sessions.

@vwbusguy @fedops 🤯 This looks like mad computer science to me. Imagine the ways this could break. Like if your git repo server is down.

I can remember a 4-word passphrase. But 6 words usually defeats me.

@Linux_in_a_Bit If you do that, it becomes more predictable and has less entropy. I don't advise it.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, my partner has an online gaming session in the evening with family and friends. I don't participate (other than to make random comments from the peanut gallery). But it makes me feel happy that she gets to do something fun.

I saw a shirt with a Debian logo and below it says, "good things come to those who wait"

I want to eat something hot and spicy. I wonder what it will be?

It's funny how conservative I am about technology, given how not-conservative I am with actual politics.

Are the thoughts I have under the influence of Xanax "clear thinking"? I think maybe they are. I'm not afraid of everything, and I think slower and more deliberately.

I want to know: What determined which of us got hit by the spam wave, and which of us didn't?

Sandboxing software is only really useful if the sandbox boundary doesn't resemble a slice of Emmentaler.

It would be funny if I switched away from #OpenBSD after ordering a t-shirt and before it gets here.

YouTube is certainly adversarial to its users. Both the uploaders, and the viewers.

Spotify is adversarial to the artists. But are they adversarial to the listeners?

folks: I run stable and I have this in my daily.local:

syspatch
fw_update
pkg_add -u
/usr/local/sbin/checkrestart

Is this a common approach to staying updated? What do you do?

All you people getting excited about the Signal update, and here I am with no need for Signal because I don't text anyone.

If I'm afraid of doing something, I might take a Xanax. If if still don't want to do that thing, I must (also) dislike it for some other reason.

Why do employers always want to talk about personal growth? I don't want to grow, I want a paycheck that I'm in no risk of losing.

I wonder if Flatpak will be around for a long time. It will make the distros leaning on it look silly if it isn't.

:ablobcatgrumpy: Why are so many Flatpaks saying "Info: app [app name] branch stable is end-of-life, with reason: This application is now being maintained as a Nix flake."

Why are you doing this to me? Is it too hard to just maintain a Flatpak and Nix flake at the same time? :blobugh:

I am NOT going to install another entire package manager just for your app. :blobcat_thisisfine:

@Linux_in_a_Bit Are these Flathub packages? Which ones?

It's too bad all-you-can-eat music streaming services are untrustworthy. Because the concept is pretty great, and it would be nice not to have 20+ GB of music to deal with.

I kinda liked the fun names the newer #Fedora editions had. But I sure couldn't remember most of them.

It's funny when stable has newer software than rawhide. See restic for an example.

Immutable Linuxes are probably great as container hosts. Not so sure about desktop. I learned a long time ago how to not screw up my system.

I went to LinkedIn (why would I do that) and got put through the whole government ID verification process. The messages I'm getting are phrased as if I had broken some site rules. I don't do anything on LinkedIn, how would I get in trouble? I never should have signed up there in the first place.

tulpa,
@tulpa@fosstodon.org avatar

If I'm going to randomly be denied access to LinkedIn (whether I get back in this time or not), that makes it too unreliable to get any value from. What if I'd actually been looking for a job?

If I get back in, I should just delete the account.
