Hey, I'm Tom. I love technology and all things open source.

I have a bunch of :raspberrypi:'s running my home lab, keeping my personal life off the internet. Still a way to go before I'm completely offline, a major issue being Google Home.

I run :debian: with :xfce: and my gaming computer does too! I also have a Fairphone4 which runs :lineageos2: with MindTheGapps.

:linux: 🧠 ☕ 🛏️ 🐱 :startrek: 🏳️‍🌈

Why must smoke alarms always decide to start low-battery chirping at 4am?

I would definitely pay extra for one with a small back up battery and a real time clock that would only low-battery chirp between 9am and 9pm.

@linux_mclinuxface Mines wired into the house, with a battery backup, never had the horrible beep.

@linux_mclinuxface Heard unplugging them stops them from beeping. Because replacing a battery at 2am is too hard.

OK note to future self, won't allow to run because it also has a script in /etc/init.d/, just delete that one. It's not needed.

NAS down, I think I'm just going to convert my rainfall logging from crontab to systemd then end there. Not sure if running my update scripts automatically is the best idea.

Done! So much simpler than it seems WorkingDirectory is pretty awesome.

So now I have tblock, which has an issue with its built in systemd files. See if I can get that working.

14.1% of #curl users say they have used it for 18 years or more

@bagder Who hasn't used curl during their daily life?

Now that I've converted my crontab to systemd services on my laptop, I now need to go through my NAS. Will make starting and stopping things far easier.

Think EVs are too expensive? Here are 11 for under $40K.

The average new car costs more than $47,000—here are 17 EVs for less than that.

@arstechnica Or don't drive?

:sigh:

In the #3dPrinting world, #OpenSource is so misunderstood.

There was a video comparing the Sovol #SV08 (GPL3) to a Troodon kit. The creator concluded that one place the SV08 definitively had a leg up was that it was open source.

About a week later the same creator posted a google drive link with the STEP file for the Troodon saying "Look, Troodon is open source."

Open up the STEP file in FreeCAD and the license metadata: "All rights reserved."

@linux_mclinuxface I thought the meaning of open source was obvious by its name.

@linux_mclinuxface You mentioned the code was a google drive link, that's not open source.
