What don’t you like about Doris Burke’s commentary?
(Edit: I think she’s great)

That was so scary! I really hope he’s okay

I love the plot of Dennis and Mac creating an online dating profile for Charlie. Their frustration with him around his quirks that he’s so nonchalant about is so funny

I’m deeply concerned about the environment and not too knowledgeable of politics. I feel the us versus them between those with ties to Alberta’s oil sands and the environmentally concerned factions of this country does little good.

I’d kind of like to shift the conversation from “oil sands bad” (and arguing over that) to the Canadian government simultaneously ending subsidies for oil and gas and creating major subsidies and other incentives for sustainable energy production. I’d like to see major increases in sustainable energy production in Alberta, and these should be widely publicized so the public knows that decreasing reliance on fossil fuels is possible, profitable, and happening by increasing necessity and public pressure

Hear, hear! So far, this summer:

  • Water restrictions due to drought forbidding lawn watering in parts of BC (Vancouver, IIRC)
  • The greatest year of Canadian wildfires (by area burned), leading to major air advisory warnings in Toronto, New York (where MLB baseball games were cancelled), and other metropolitan areas in addition to locals suffering far greater impacts (e.g., evacuation, property damage)
  • Flooding in Nova Scotia where lives were lost

Never have the impacts of climate change been so palpable in our own backyard. If this summer isn’t the proverbial canary in the coal mine, what is?

Great list! For piercings, I’d add (nose) septum and additional earrings (i.e, secondary ones that might run up the ear, beside the standard centre-of-lobe piercing)

In theory, humans have the capacity to consent to the work, find alternate work, receive actual wages for their work, and go home at the end of their shift

Slave monkeys are used because they’re cheaper than the cheapest human labour in those countries. If you think any of the amenities you describe are available to these monkeys, enjoy your delusion. These are slave labour camps, and the monkeys are typically chained to the trees and physically abused if they don’t gather coconuts. Dogs, horses, and cats enjoy a fair amount of protection from human cruelty in North America. Unspeakable things are done to the other non-human animals you mentioned

Thanks for posting! G*%$le’s amp links is very non-Fediverse. We need a de-amp bot :)

Non-amp link: www.cbssports.com/nba/news/kevin-durant-says-adam-silver-smelled-it-when-he-walked-into-meeting-that-got-nba-marijuana-testing-axed/

That’s correct. There’s a part at the beginning of the link and end of the link. If you’re on a phone/Chrome, Google makes it tough for you to recognize you’re using an amp link. The point of the amp link is that users of it never actually visit the site that produced the content, they stay within Google servers, so Google profits off of visitors’ traffic and data, and the content creators don’t see any of it

Last summer there was so much hype around so many of the Raptors players being at the Rico Hines Runs and how good they looked. Then comes the regular season. Masai even said the offence was painful to watch at times (which was putting it lightly [“at times”]) and based on the eye test, I’d say we were bottom 5 in clutch performance. I won’t know how excited I am about this season until I watch some regular season games and see how the team actually operates. Also, most Raptors content on Reddit (if we’re comparing ourselves to that) in the summer is internet silliness, like memes and what players are posting on their social media accounts or doing in their spare time, as opposed to sports talk

IIRC he was very involved during the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020 following George Floyd’s murder, and was unequivocally on the right side of history then. (So far, others have only cited negative examples of him in response to your comment)

Yeah, he’s now pitching in a double-header for the Halos on Thursday - so he’s not pitching while he’s in Toronto period.

There are multiple aspects and layers to this issue. Both of your points can be true at the same time - and I think they are

It’s a hard cap in the NHL, right? How might they fix this?

I agree with your whole list, except part of #2: I don’t think the Angels outside of Ohtani and Trout are a big attraction in Toronto

To add to it (edit: the craziness, that is): The Angels got rained out in Detroit last night, and Ohtani’s start has now been pushed to Thursday (edit: so he won’t pitch in the Toronto series at all or Saturday (I can’t remember which), but it’s not Friday any longer)

I love organ players at ballparks (and, I agree, a lot of the SkyDome sound effects could be improved upon)! I remember the Dodgers’ organ player doing more riffs from popular songs in past seasons, and getting a lot more air time at the Stadium in general. I haven’t heard as much as I expected to from the past in what I’ve caught of this series so far (which hasn’t been a ton)

I like what I’m seeing from Yusei! I know Schneider’s said in the past that he doesn’t want personal catchers, but I think I like Jano with Berríos, Kikuchi, and Alek Manoah (the less experienced catchers who probably need more direction/ reassurance from their catcher) and Kirk with the vets, Gausman and Bassitt. Depending on pitcher experience, I think Jano’s superior game calling or Kirk’s superior framing might be more effective. Just a thought

Edit: My categorization above might be more based on feel than facts, in terms of years of MLB experience. They are (including 2023): Bassitt 9 years, Berríos 8 years, Gausman 11 years, Kikuchi 5 years (although he played pro in Japan), Manoah 3 years

5.0 IP, 88 pitches. Will he start the 6th? I think they will let him, actually. He’s been really strong of late and I think he’s due a opportunity like this. Facing 4, 5, 6 for a 3rd time though

I agree, it’s Tobias. 2nd for me is Barry Zuckerkorn. 3-5 are Buster, Gob, and Lucille in some order
