The "failure" comment makes sense in context, b/c Graham is saying Hitler should have been stopped sooner. But that underlines the fact that this simpering hypocrite is one of the most shameless and opportunistic apologists for the aspiring American Hitler. Now it's people like Trump and Graham who must be stopped. https://www.threads.net/@aaron.rupar/post/C7_8sgegp9M

Anthony Bourdain died tragically on this day in 2018. In 2009, Bourdain visited my neighborhood in San Francisco and went to the coolest bar in the Haight with one of the best living poets, my friend August Kleinzahler. Here's August's remembrance. https://www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2018/june/remembering-anthony-bourdain

Richard Linklater's "Hit Man," which just dropped on Netflix, may not be an all-time great film, but it's fun and sassy - a noir screwball comedy, basically.

I'm on Jesse Jarnow's fabulous Good Ol' Grateful Deadcast this week to talk about my second Dead show, 8/6/74 at Roosevelt Stadium. At 1:01:40 or so, I mention a mystery that has haunted me for decades -- a curious sequence of notes that Garcia played several times that night, and throughout his career, that I've never heard anyone else mention. https://www.dead.net/deadcast/mars-hotel-50-pride-cucamonga

Grateful Dead: Summer ’73 (The Phil Jazz Jam)

I can’t say I have a general take on the sporadic performances from the summer of 1973… except for the luminous quality of the improvisation, featuring one of the great improv themes, The Phil Jazz Jam.

70 minutes of summery Dead improv:

I have little doubt that blatantly corrupt judge Aileen Cannon has parked her MAGA-owned ass directly over this case because Trump sold classified documents to the Saudis and Russians and our undercover agents died. No one's talking about it because it would raise uncomfortable questions about treason and capital crimes [article from 2022]. https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/world/us/us-justice-dept-poised-release-redacted-affidavit-trump-search-2022-08-26/

The thing about "Godzilla Minus One," which is a stupendous romp and now on @netflix, is that it's one of the most fascinating explorations of the Japanese psyche post-WW2 I've ever seen, while Godzilla is practically an incidental character. It feels like an instant classic.

Pro-tip: If you're a liberal rushing into threads today to declare that "Trump's felony convictions will just make Republican voters love him all the more" because you think it makes you sound less naive, you may as well be cashing checks from Steve Bannon and Lindsey Graham.
