Likely a result of recent Slack shenanigans, the pressure on the matrix.org server is a good reminder of why I should just run my own #matrix instance. It also just adds to my appreciation of how much nicer it is to run and use #xmpp.

@ilyess I was a bit skeptical at first but the more I think about it the more I like the approach. I also appreciate that the phone number can be hidden fully, although it would have been better to eliminate it altogether but this is big step in the right direction.

I hate it when you run into a problem with some obscure script you didn't know was running, and when you check to see what it is you find out it's some horrible hack you snuck in "temporarily" 6 years ago that somehow never went away.
