An #aurora over #devon!? Never seen one before, and did not think my first time would be this far south in my own back garden. Quite a geomagnetic storm raging right now, with quite frankly stunning results.

I maintain a web app called Chirp, which provides an up-to-the-minute view of gravitational wave events coming from #LIGO. This was originally started years ago by my colleagues and I as an #outreach and #scicomm tool to make gravitational wave astronomy accessible to everyone. It has just moved to its new home at Exeter. The iOS and Android apps are re-releasing soon for O4. #astrodon

Hello, Mastodon! I’m an astrophysicist at the University of Exeter. I work on applying astrophysical methods to understanding the ecological impacts of artificial light at night . I’m also currently working on stellar characterisation.

As The Bad Place is becoming increasingly hostile, I’m trying to share what we're working on a little more widely, so please do follow-along if you are interested in light pollution, (astro)physics, or the life of a researcher at . 🙂
