We’ve several medieval walled-towns in the north of Wales, some, like Conwy, better known than others. Here’s another. As I arrived yesterday for an x-ray at the hospital, this view in the sunshine of castle hill caught my eye. The hill, walls & what’s left of the castle are now largely obscured by trees, but I could just about make out the remains.

This romneya (California poppy) caught everyone’s eye - between sun and showers - yesterday while we were out and about in Felixstowe. Its dark yellow ‘pompom’ of stamens stands proud of its six large pure white petals.

Long-stemmed poppies - papaver dubium - tiny and exquisite, spotted adorning the sea shore as we walked along at our holiday destination Felixstowe. It’s bright red, with four petals which are very large in relation to its tiny leaves and long thin stem, and just a few stamens.

H. italicum. Some call it the Curry Plant, and its pale grey-green thin leaves are like rosemary leaves but have a spicy fragrance. Its myriad clusters of yellow flowers are so tiny. In the summer breeze, wafting them to and fro, I couldn’t get a detailed close-up

A favourite old walk with Meg the whippet, high above the Vale of Clwyd, through Llangwyfan Wood. As often these days she’s a reluctant elderly companion, really preferring her bed to be honest. And she has to be muzzled to stop her scavenging nasty things in the undergrowth which at least twice already have made her very sick.
