While I try to get it fixed somehow (only way I see at the moment is an repair cafe) I work with 2 display I scavenged.
Nothing easier than that I thought, simply buy a USB-C dock with two HDMI ports. Boy was I wrong.
It works fine on Linux.
On Windows both display use the same resolution which leads to a distorted image on the higher resolution display.
On #MacOS both external screens show the same image. This is said to be a limit of MacOS but I have a hard time believing this. I can add a second USB-C to HDMI Adapter and both external displays just work fine. Additionally it should be possible daisy chain thunderbolt displays. So it feels rather like an artificial technical issue. E.g. the vendor would need to use different more expensive chip (or really use Thunderbolt).
Can anyone #Recommenced a Dock which supports two or more display on MacOS?
What happend to the @SoCraCan (SoCraTes Canarias)?
Does anyone have some #OpenSpace pictures they like to share? Especially if they would be usable on another event page for visualizing the #OpenSpace format (I'm talking about the @OSCo ;-)
I regularly search this article but never can remember (or spell) the authors name.
"Night Watch" is a quite artsy search term, in combination with "drunk goldfish" I usually succeed, but not after seeing other unexpected Search results.
So here an article recommendation (with a slightly selfish touch 😜)
"The Night Watch" by James Mickens
USENIX ;login: logout issue, November 2013
A humorous tongue in cheek reckoning with programming. Wrapped in an explanation of why a systems programmer is the most important team member to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.
"A systems programmer will know what to do when society breaks down, because the systems programmer already lives in a world without law."
"A systems programmer has seen the terrors of the world and understood the intrinsic horror of existence. The systems
programmer has written drivers for buggy devices whose firmware was implemented by a drunken child or a sober goldfish."
I struggle with the term "vulnerability remediation". Especially a precise (legal) definition.
I would love to here your takes (boosts welcome 😀)
To make my "struggle" clearer, some examples:
In the sitting that there is a vulnerability in a (software) component you use
You patch the component. That a remediation. ✅
You change the configuration or other measures that the vulnerability can't be exploited. Is this a valid "remediation"? Nitpicky i would say it's rather a risk mitigation
The vulnerability/risk assessment determines the vulnerability "can't" be exploited. E.g. the functionality isn't used or the measures described in 2. are already in place. Intuitively i would say this isn't a "vulnerability remediation"
This might be an non-native-speaker language issue or i might miss a precise definition.
Or are there better terms to use? Especially in contracts?
Resolved: Found the problem and it was me 🤪. I misspelled the filename when moving the file.
Dummy question
How do I add images to #GitLab pages build with #Jekyll
My local Jekyll instance copies the images folder but #GitLabCI doesn't
Not sure how to accomplish that the images are available on #GitLabPages
Boosts and any hints welcome.
I'm pretty sure that PEBCAK (problem exists between chair and keyboard) but i just don't know were to look. Do i explicitly need to include the image directory in Jekyll or do i need to copy it in #GitLabCI 🥴?
Edit: Thank you all for boosting and answering.
I would love to make the Open Space format better known in the cybersecurity context. I think it is a valuable addition to existing formats such as traditional conferences or #BSides
If you would like to learn more about Open Space see my follow up posts
If you participated in Open Space events (in any domain) please share your experience.
@realn2s Just learned of them and attended a few thanks to the "Software Crafters Unconference" and the folks who run it (a few of whom are coworkers).
We ran a product, engineering, and CX one at our last off-site and it was a blast.
