Crazy idea of the day: how could I integrate https://cupid.careers into the Fediverse?
If you don't know, it's a "OkCupid for Jobs" site that I did a couple of years ago. People answer questions and the system tries to find other people who are the most aligned with your professional values and the companies.
@evan , how would one go about it? Make an account that publishes the questions as polls, and internally collect the responses?
Evidence number 37 that ActivityPub needs to find a way to decouple actor identities from DNS:
Feddit.UK has finally kicked the bucket- and what happens next. https://communick.news/post/520100
Step 3 of my evil plan regarding #fediverser and the #redditmigration has been executed. Anyone with a reddit account can go to https://portal.alien.top to claim their account at the alien.top #lemmy instance, and when they do so it gives you a list of your current reddit subscriptions and recommends the corresponding lemmy community.
Now, on to build and extend the lemmy communities so that we have more recommendations to make.
Yes, absolutely! In fact, it seems that this subreddit is a good candidate to try implementing the strategy that I described on https://communick.news/post/769373
Ok, I will answer it. No #IPFS server (that I know of) has any type of ACL in place. If you put a IPFS server online, any file you request through it will end up on its cache. If you put a gateway online, people can put all types of crap there and good luck to you explaining why you have illegal data on your server.
There is also no way to say "Here is a list of other IPFS nodes that are managed by other people that can be trusted" You can make a cluster, but you need to own it all.
@ruud , can you please confirm my account @rglullis is being perma-banned over a post that was perfectly on-topic and had +100 upvotes?! What was so bad about that post that could've been addressed in the post itself by one of the mods?
My post about communick on @fediverse was unfeatured and I got a 3-day ban for "advertisements".
The post was well received and had 100+ upvotes. I've written it after someone found a comment of mine and said more people could be interested.
I did talk about communick a lot on that community, but my participation was far from spammy. I also subscribed to plenty of other communities and kept any communick-related comments to the "right" place.
One interesting phenomenon I am observing: what used to be a link to a Twitter thread on Hacker News is now a link to fosstodon or hachyderm. The center of the conversation place is changing, Twitter is becoming the periphery.
@vincent I am working on a twitter-to-bird.makeup importer and I have some questions:
Are you okay with that? Would it be too bad if you suddenly have some hundreds of users, each of them importing hundreds to thousands of twitter profiles?
What would be a reasonable request rate? Is something like Mastodon's built-in rate limits (300 requests / 5min window) ok?
@raphael Then just do it! It will probably break stuff, but I will fix those things when they break, and bird.makeup will be more resilient as a result 😁
@vincent i did already - on a small scale - and when this is why I wrote to you. :)
I tried importing my wife's follows (if your logs show someone trying to add a bunch of Greek accounts, that's me) and I got only 13 out of the 700 accounts imported.
So, it is really hard for me to share personal things online, but I need to get out of my comfort zone: I was fired from my day job last week and now I need to figure out if I should double down on communick or I should keep it as side-project and look for another job.
I will make a series of polls to see if there is any viable business. Please boost for visibility.
Dear @murena , I really want to be able to promote /e/OS, but it gets really difficult to do if Location services are completely unreliable or don't work on the Fairphone 3, even after all these years.
The BVG (Berlin transit) app can never find the station when I want to buy a ticket. Is it an issue with the app, the GPS on the phone, the lack of Google Services, all of the above? Why is it that I can never get it to work when I need it most?
Hello Raphael, thank you for the support of our project. Let's figure out what might have happened.
Have you hidden your geolocation in the Advanced Privacy? You can go to Settings of Advanced Privacy => Manage app's trackers (and activate your geolocation for this particular app).
If this is not the case, our team also recommends you to update to the last /e/OS Version (v1.12.3, currently under deployment). This version embeds last modifications on location services.
